The 1189 restaurant was one of the best things about staying at Walworth Castle - the food was top quality, some of the best I’ve ever had when staying at a hotel. Staff really helpful and friendly too

We have been a few times now and the food has always been excellent. Staff are attentive, and three courses cost around £30 each including a soft drink. Portions are decent and lots of flavour.
Excellent service, and great space and facilities.I am not sure if I just ordered the wrong things, but was a little disappointed by all three course. The stack of black pudding and hash browns was a peculiarly breakfasty start to the meal. The roast pork was dry. The various sides with the roast were all very salty. The crème Brûlée consistency was odd. The crumble was good though.

My stay at the hotel was in two parts.The room and general comfort were great. The price was fair. Staff are lovely.But, the food! STODGE, STODGE and more STODGE. No fresh fruit as a breakfast salad, yogurts full of sugar and STODGE.The evening portions were huge but devoid of any finesse. Piles of chips. Yorkshires reheated from the lunch menu. An unchanging menu. Boring and poor. It woukd put me off a revisit.Jeff Atkinson
