Loved this pub, they don't do big brand drinks so some may struggle to find an alternative however I'm a fan of the IPAs they had on tap!

If the gentle charm and quirk of Rye could be bottled, you’d find it at the Ypres Castle Inn.Balancing elegantly between old and new, it combines the best bits of ‘a traditional pub’ with a fresh, modern ‘boozer’. While the fire roars in the hearth you can sip a contemporary sour beer or pale ale, while choosing between a locally sourced pork pie or a tin of Perello olives for a snack in between. For the colder nights there’s nooks and crannies aplenty to pitch up in and enjoy a good book, while Summer sun is complemented with a spacious garden overlooking the marshes.Jeff, the master of house, is quick to spin a yarn, while making sure your glass is nice and full. We’ve come back for seconds, and so will you.Pro tip - head down the stairs from the church to land right on its doorstep. Our step count is high enough, thank you very much Google maps.5/5 will recommend to many.

Heard so many good things of this pub. But last night - cold and wet - there was no real fire, the Long Man best was tired and the Budvar glass filled to the brim and pretty flat. The 'Czech pour' apparently has to be requested.Disappointed. Assume Mr B. was away.

Best pub in Rye with the best beer selection and the best beer garden and the best Landlord.

Super welcoming, super dog friendly and excellent beer list. Sparky gives two paws up and his humans were happy :-)

The place was awful. Ok if you just want a drinking den, I’m all for it. But the two staff, one young man and one young lady couldn’t have been more unfriendly or unhelpful had they been trying to. I guess they were both naturally this way. The guy was trying to hide a pint he was drinking from view from where we were sitting. Whether this from his colleague or another drinker I’ve no idea! The establishment reeked of dogs, more of whom were seated at chairs and benches than their human companions! No body wanted to move a mutt so as we could take a seat. Why we even stayed for one ? To be honest I needed the loo. Wish I’d have waited. Avoid. Spoils a lovely town with great history.

Disgustingly rude team and owner who'd rather than be polite or have an understanding of the meaning of the word "hospitality" would rather insult, bully and jeer customers out of the pub in front of other customers. Avoid at all costs and shame on the owner and all of the team of this establishment you should be ashamed of your behaviour and think about how cowardly you behaved and we certainly never deserved the way you treated us so publicly.

It was a very wet and cold day and we went in to warm up and dry off but, unfortunately, it was cold, dark and damp inside too. We asked if the fire could be started but it wasn't. We left after a while because we were cold (we could see our breaths). Real shame.

Very expensive. £7 for a glass of a 175ml wine that what served. I mentioned to a member of the bar staff that there was a lot of water in the ladies toilet and didn't even receive an acknowledgement of

This was my favourite pub that we visited in Rye, with an excellent beer selection that is varied enough to suit most tastes (I may or may not have tried almost all of the ones on offer over the course of 3 visits.) Dark and atmospheric, we found it to be a great place to hide away on a wet and windy afternoon / evening.

Warm atmosphere, intimate and cozy. Good German beer selection and the red wine was good. Perfect for pre dinner or relaxing in the afternoon or evening with couples and friends

Great traditional 'wet' pub with great beers and wine. Lively bar and a satisfying wood fire. Bar snacks (heffty pork pies). Large beer garden. It's definitely my kind of pub.

Such a lovely, historic spot a stones throw from the cute shops of Rye. There's a fantastic selection of beers and non-alcoholic options including lots of local brews. The space is full of cosy, warm corners to settle down in. When the weather is nice they also have a big beer garden across the way with some lovely views of the town. Well worth a visit.Kid-friendliness: Lots of outdoor space for kids and dogs.Wheelchair accessibility: Doesn't seem very accessible.

No food is available according to a poster inside. A good selection of ales and cider. Helpful pleasent staff. Large beer garden opposite. This appears to be a card only pub so no cash is accepted.
