How can a cafe not even get sausage & chips right. The sausages has a fragrent perfume taste , I'm not sure how and the chips un-eadable, tasted of old oil and were wadded in greese., I was completely put off by the washed out Mao botel used for ketchup and vinagar in a old olive oil bottle with dried brown sauce up the side , I used the brown sauce as seemed to be the only one in its container but wasn't brown sauce was awful. We left our meals after only a temping a small amount. Since returning home my son ( who ate the chips ) has had upset stomach, I'm not sure how this place has a hygiene rating at all as its cleery not good unfortunately. The positive us the staff were friendly

It's all you want in a cafe really.Decent food in good time and a friendly service. You don't always get things as you'd expect eg cornbeef cooked up, but they are always happy to make things right.Perhaps chocolate fudge cake isn't quite as fudgy but all in all, nice quality dining.Good variety on offer.Kid-friendliness: It doesn't have a pub atmosphere. No alcohol and small meals are availableWheelchair accessibility: No steps to entry and the toilet is on the same floor.

I work locally and visit Something Scrummy a few times a week. Sometimes for lunch or breakfast and other times just a delicious cake! Many people have commented that this is the nicest cafe in Braintree. And I have to agree! The environment within the cafe is calm, fresh and bright. The food is lovely and the staff are always happy.

All around great breakfast ! Everything cooked to perfection, including my eggs! Dippable but not runny, not everyone gets that! ?

Went to the cafe as part of a group of 12 visiting Braintree Museum. The cost of our visit included tea and refreshments in the cafe. When we arrived mid afternoon we found tables had been reserved for us. A waiter came and took our order for tea or coffee and told us that a selection of cakes would be put out on the table for us to share. As I avoid sweet things I asked if I could have a cheese scone instead (I had seen them on the counter). I was told no unless I wanted to pay for it separately, as it wasn’t part of our “package “. Service was very slow, considering that apart from us 12 only one other table was occupied (with a person on their own). The tea arrived - just cup a with a tea bag in it which had obviously sat for some time as there was scum on top. Had to ask for spoons and milk to be brought. By then my over brewed tea was undrinkable. The cakes, which arrived well after the tea, consisted of either a chocolate brownie or caramel slice, which some said were far too sweet. All in all a disappointing visit to Scrummy which I’m not encouraged to recommend to anyone.

The yolk of my poached egg, a trickle of golden spring sunshine, runs across my plate combining the delectable contents - a lightly toasted muffin, crispy bacon and sliced avocado, all decorated with a pinch of chopped chives. I have been waiting for an excuse to come to Braintree since last month when I was treated to the same dish and it doesn’t disappoint. Combined with the undeniably pleasant surroundings and friendliest of staff, I cannot think of a more rewarding way to spend my time or money.
