We have had lunch before at the Shepherd Inn as our mum was living in a care home nearby. We was impressed by the atmosphere of this pub and the friendly service. Mum passed away recently and we contacted the Shepherd Inn with regard to holding the Wake there. We was greeted with such compassion and help and considering the funeral was the 20th December and a weeks notice, we was surprised that they could accommodate us, plus the venue to ourselves until the pub opened. Nothing seemed too much trouble. We had a lovely buffet laid on with tea and coffee and of course the bar open. Everyone was so helpful and really made us all feel at ease and it helped to give mum a really good send off. Thank you Scott for all your help, also to your wife and staff on the day. I highly recommend you and we will come back when we are next in the area.

Very nice lunch today being served by friendly and helpful staff. Couldn’t recommend it more if you’re looking for a pleasant lunchtime experience.

My partner dropped me at this pub to go for a drink while he was working around the corner. The toilet was just when you walk in, so i thought to use it first. This guy run shouting that I can't use the toilet and opening doors to the cubical WHILE I was on a toilet. Couldn't squeeze a word into his rant! Even if I would not have intented to buy anything, who does that? How miserable (and bored) you have to be to do that??

A group of us came to the Shepherd Inn for a funeral wake and we were made to be very welcome. There's a good selection of local beers on tap, and the pub itself is a characterful building that's been standing for over 500 years - Scott was able to tell me some interesting stories about the history of the place as he pulled me a pint. A buffet of food was well prepared, I especially enjoyed the chicken wings, and the cake was excellent. When some flowers had been left behind after the wake had finished, the staff put these in the cooler room so that they didn't wilt before we collected them the next day, very good thinking on the roasting summer day we had. An honest pub with great atmosphere and some lovely staff - what more do you need?

Went for lunch after a walk in the area and was charged nearly 6 pounds for a pint of Coke (the beer was only 4.80 a pint). Food was mediocre - my burger was only just cooked and the plastic, processed cheese hardly made it a cheeseburger. At least the chips were good.

After a walk in the area went in here for a drink and lunch. To be charged nearly £6 for a pint of coke when the beer was less than £5 a pint was insulting. The cheeseburger I had was only just cooked and the piece of processed, plastic cheese it was topped with was a let down. The chips were, however, really good.

Nice pub, shame they don't allow dogs in the pub just in the garden
The lunch menu is very varied but we were in a hurry so ordered 2 jacket potatoes, a coke and a coffee. The food took 50 minutes to arrive (I went up to enquire about it after waiting 45 minutes) and the potatoes were only half cooked (microwaved but not finished off in the oven so hard inside). They did have a party of cyclists in but the man who served us didn’t say the order would be delayed. They overcharged me by just under £5. (£4.80 I think) I didn’t query it at the time as we had to rush off but I emailed them the next day. They admitted overcharging me and said I could pop in that day to collect my money. I asked them to put it in their charity tin. They also said ‘apologies for the delay too’. They didn’t comment on the fact that I’d told them the food was undercooked (they would have seen that we’d left three quarters of both the potatoes) and tbh they didn’t sound very sorry. It’s a shame as my daughter recently moved to the area and we thought it might be a great local. We now feel more inclined to go to the other local for lunch in future.

We would like to thank Scott & Sarah so very much for hosting our recent funeral wake at the Shepherd. The day was damp and dreary; but the pub was warm and welcoming ?There was plenty of tea & coffee available and the buffet was fresh and varied. We would highly recommend this venue ? but watch out for the bar?...you'll see?
