A Brilliant Bakery. The food and coffee were 10/10. Living in Manchester City Centre we are no strangers to paying a premium for things as you do here. The setting is fantastic and you can see why there's a premium, but you certainly get what you pay for and therefore do not mind. The staff were polite and friendly, the shop gets busy and we're queuing out the door but was very well managed. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the village, will definitely return.

Very over priced I thought, taking advantage of the location for sure. Felt the heart of the whole town had been taken away by people cashing in !!! A bap, pastie and 2 coffees £25 ?

Great place for coffee and cake - and dog friendly.

It's in such a beautiful location and love that they're open earlier so you can start the day off before anything else is open. Their breve latte was wonderful and extremely friendly staff. Adorable little place!

Victoria sponge delicious, scones lovely but more clotted cream needed.

Always grab a coffee and a pastry as a take away, but today I decided to sit in and have a breakfast bap + latte. The coffee has somehow got even better and the breakfast bap arrived quickly, but on closer inspection it was obvious that care had been taken on preparing the ingredients with the egg being seasoned perfectly and the bread for the bap was obviously fresh. Will return again soon! ??

Bourton-on-the-Water is a very attractive popular tourist-town in the central Cotswolds. The river Windrush, complete with lovely low bridges, runs right-through the main commercial centre. As you would expect there are many eateries here, offering snacks and meals, so the competition for tourist £££’s is/was bound to be fierce. There are many eateries offering afternoon or cream teas. After looking at several; with quaint décor, and (most probably) waitresses in lacy pinafore dresses; I doubted that these would provide a satisfactory quality snack for our outlay. I was very aware that my Partner was getting weary of looking at prospective places, to find the one that offered good, and fairly-priced wholesome food. My yardstick was simple: were other customer going there, and did it feel like a tourist-trap? Eventually we turned a corner in a back-street, and there it was, this artisan bakery shop café. The queue wasn’t huge, and the place was bustling and busy. There seemed to me that there was a mix of locals and tourists sat at the tables. The food in the glass counter cabinet certainly looked good. There were plenty of staff and they were all busy. Yes … this was the place! We ordered a cheese and ham toastie each, plus a pot of tea for two. The food counter cabinet had showed (amongst other delights) prepared, but uncooked, toasties; the bread was really thick, and the filling looked plentiful. My expectation was that the toasties were going to provide that good quality snack. Seating was an issue, but a very pleasant switched-on young lady behind the counter advised us to retreat to a (we felt dull) anteroom where there were unoccupied tables. We would then be advised, if and when, a table in the main, very atmospheric, dining area became free. That worked for us, but before we were notified about a free table, we saw a party leave, so we grabbed their table before it was re-taken. We sat down, but the table was covered with used crockery and cutlery; so we cleared this to one side of the four-seater table, where it was promptly taken away. Our tea soon arrived and we let it steep, as we do prefer strong tea. Our plates of food arrived after a few minutes and the toastied did look good. The very chunky bread was lightly toasted and packed with the ham and melted cheese filling. The plate was completed with a small leafy salad and some crisps. This was good tasty rustic food and thoroughly great to eat, and not at all expensive at a total of £25.52 - really great value for a snack that satisfied. Service was really friendly and efficient, as befitting a family business. As I left I saw the young woman who served us and gave her the thumb’s up for what was an excellent quality snack with memorably attentive service. We’ll be back.

This bakery and cafe has a great vibe. Staff were busy but cheerful and efficient. The bakery display is all very tempting! We bought quiche, a sourdough loaf and Victoria Sponge cake. The quiche was genuinely the best we've ever tasted in the UK and equal to that we've tried from artisan bakers in France; crisp, light pastry and packed with a delicious filling. Perfect! The sourdough was excellent and the Victoria sponge a real treat (and we're quite fussy!). It's worth paying a bit more for top food quality. We highly recommend and will return when next in the area.

The best bakery-made quiche we've ever tasted in the UK!We travel extensively in the UK and France and are always keen to find produce by artisan bakers. We visited Bakery on the Water today and although there was quite a queue, staff appeared busy but cheerful. The young lady on the till was efficient and friendly and the place had a really positive vibe.We loved their great display of tempting savouries, pastries and cakes. Verdict on the food? We absoluteky love quiche and this is genuinely the best we've ever tasted frim a bakery in the UK; the pastry was crisp and light and it was packed with a really tasty filling. I'll go so far as to say it's as good as any we've had from the best artisan bakers in France, too! Absolutely delicious!Their sourdough loaf is excellent too. What a find! I only wish we lived closer!

We wanted to try this bakery as it looked amazing and indeed the food was really great but abit pricey, two toasties cost us £16 which I thought was abit overpriced but can’t fault the food at all.

We went there following some personal reviews. Early on we noticed that staff who had been working there for years, who we knew, had left. The whole atmosphere was very strict and rigid, nothing to do with the familiar tone we were expecting. The owners are stingy and their bakery rations have decreased in size as well as in taste. Expect London prices in the middle of the countryside, albeit gorgeous town. We overheard some members of staff talking about the incredibly high numbers of security cameras installed there, despite the café being small. Seems to me that the owners do not trust anybody. Not happy, will not be returning.

Walking in Bourton early on Sunday and fancied a coffee, I was really pleased to see the Bakery on the Water open. Walked in and asked for a coffee, the girl took my order, There was 1 other person in the cafe and 2 staff serving. The one lady served the other person, very slowly and the girl who took our order wandered around and eventually started to make what we thought was our coffee. We were completely ignored and felt quite awkward to be honest. I have to say it was painful to watch how slow the coffee was made. The girl seemed like it was a first day and the lady seemed to not know we were waiting even though we were right in front of her. She was just messing around and singing. Anyway, 14 minutes later I asked if our coffee was coming as my wife had to be somewhere. I got a sarcastic reply and felt quite insulted. Then finally given my coffee. Looking at other reviews I guess we drew the short straw when it comes to staff as there are lots of happy customers but some very similar to our experience. A Real shame. I'll be checking who's serving if I go again... IF.
