Absolutely fantastic pub, great local ales (hop union formerly Great western brewery), good pub food, friendly locals and plenty of good dogs about too! Situated in the perfect position to be the start/middle/end of many a stunning south Gloucestershire walk!

Building was from the 1600’s so mind you head on the low cross beams! Fantastic character, brick walls showcasing its history and large open fireplaces. A real rustic feel.Food looks expensive but trust me you won’t be leaving hungry. The portion sizes are big so it’s money well spent and it’s not microwaved food either. Steak and ale pie has proper chunks of steak, slow cooked as it falls apart and it’s all lean, no fat or gristle. You can taste the ale in the gravy too.Really can’t fault this place except if you order something with salad, the salad is a bit lack luster. Could do with a dressing or dollop of coleslaw, but honestly can’t remove a star for that. After all it’s a pub and it’s good hearty food, not a fancy restaurant.

Food was fantastic, service good etc and great value.Minor gripe was didn't have a high chair for the baby so was a bit awkward keeping them still while eating... didn't bring own as you assume places have one.Kid-friendliness: No high chairs.
