Overrated and extremely overpriced with a lack of any quality , I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone you could honestly have a better time at a funeral.Don’t waste your time and save your funds.

First time visit - My husband and I ate at the Brasserie a couple of weeks ago as part of the half day spa package for his 40th birthday. The restaurant is lovely and the service was polite & attentive. However sadly lack of vegetarian options. It was a Sunday and my husband had beef roast (chicken had sold out). As a vegetarian, I also love a nut roast / wellington but no option at all. There were no alternative vegetarian 'mains' on the menu - just a fish dish & a pasta dish - which wasn't veggie. I had to asked the waiter if anything could be made 'vegetarian'. He went off to check with the chef and sadly not, so I was given a 'vegan' menu instead. I chose an Asian style starter which was tasty and then a tortellini pasta dish - it was disappointing. Very odd flavours and the 'pasta' tasted like dumplings. As a vegetarian I still eat dairy and was not catered for on the menu at all. It was either meat/fish or - vegan. An easy win would be to make pasta dish on the main menu vegetarian. When we were seated we weren't asked if we had any dietary requirements - I guess they assume everyone who eats here is a meat eater. I've not had to question a menu like this since 2000s and can feel like you're being difficult. My husband loved his roast though!Vegetarian options: Very limited vegetarian options

This review is regarding The Hive, formerly The Gumstall Inn at Calcot spa. We got married there in 2010 and decided to pop back for a glass of wine. The place is beautiful, charming, chilled and after the refurbishment in April the feel is very different from when we were there in 2010, but lovely, service very attentive, polite and quality of everything fabulous, as we expected. What we didn't expect was a standard £4.00 service charge on top of the £31 for 2 glasses of wine and some olives (very nice they were too)! Feel like it ruined the experience for us to be honest, which is a real shame as everything else was great. Just feel that £4 was an unnecessary addition to what was an expensive treat anyway.

Great place for a coffee and a work meeting. Good wifi, great coffee, plenty of seating.

We Came to Calcot for a delicious afternoon tea served by an excellent and friendly waitress, hazel, you could tell everything on the stand was home made and delicious and the setting in the restaurant is perfect

Had really high hopes for the Brasserie, and it did disappoint.Initially, the premises looks glamorous and has that typical Cotswolds charm to it and looks so grand. However, the service was downright lazy and poor; servers grouped together in their little cliques, chatting; servers eating food between serving tables; and 'managers' swanning around in their own self-importance doing absolutely nothing but chatting to themselves. On to the food...the Westcombe Cheddar and truffle soufflé was an absolute dream, so light and fluffy yet had a lovely hit of proper cheddar and was so elegant to look at, it felt almost criminal to ruin it by eating it...I'm glad I did!The lamb belly and rump looked fantastic and was cooked to a decent medium, but, downhill from here folks...the lamb was absolutely bland! It tasted of nothing...I was flabbergasted, I have never been so disappointed by a flavourless main. Now, the only flavour on this plate was the aubergine, and it left a: strong, horrible, smokey, and unpleasantly bitter aftertaste...I regret this decision.Decided not to have dessert as the service was so, so, slow and the aftertaste of the lamb dish ruined my appetite...The toilets were clean and bright, with some lovely soap and lotion; but, 1 ply toilet paper...at these prices you only give your patrons see-through toilet tissue...bizarre!In short...go for the soufflé, nothing else! If you go, expect a wait for someone to eventually serve you...Dietary restrictions: Very good labels on the menu to help with allergens.

We went to the Brasserie for my birthday dinner. We were a group of five and we were all very happy with our choices of food. They didn’t take long to bring the entries and whole dinner ran in a very good pace. The waiters although young were very able and professional. I guess they overheard any mention of my birthday and brough me a surprise: a bowl with 3 scoopes of ice cream with a message writen with chocolate. I was very touched. The night was very pleasant.

We stayed at Calcot for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary and dining at the brasserie was definitely a highlight. The food was absolutely delicious. We were lucky with the weather to be able to sit on the terrace to enjoy the countryside views alongside our meal. Would thoroughly recommend and can’t wait to come back.

No where as good as it use to be starters where the best part if the Sunday lunch the roast dinner was by far not the best with baked on gravy on the plate skinny beef well over cooked no checking on by staff to see if all ok I think either the chef has changed or he had a day off since the Gumstool has gone this is the 2nd meal in this restaurant we have had and was not good

We have now eaten two dinner meals at the Brasserie and they have been wonderful. Great service and the food has been high quality and delicious. I could live on the cheese soufflé. They also welcome and cater to children.

The food at the hive was no-bueno! ☹️

Whilst not the most extensive menu, the food and service were excellent. After a number of visits to Calcot, over the years, it never fails to deliver.

The brasserie has relaunched (previously the restaurant at Calcot); decor is tasteful and looks the same as previous - nice and light and airy, looking over the grounds etc. We had afternoon tea which we felt was good value vs other places. Everything was tasty and well presented but so sweet heavy - only 3 finger sandwiches and then double scones, cakes etc. More sandwiches or a savoury item would be nicer. The children’s afternoon tea was cute but didn’t differ much to the adults - simpler cakes like the simpler sandwiches would be nice ? The inclusion of a milkshake was nice though. Also we booked for the kings coronation weekend and there were no decorations or even reference to it on the tea, which seemed a missed opportunity. Service was friendly but slow.

Went to Calcot for a special birthday, I was very disappointed. The service was really slow, it also felt like no one really cared. We had to ask for a glass of wine twice and a coke 3 times before they arrived. The dining room filled with smoke from the wood burner, when I spoke to the waitress, she said this is good, it's normally worse than this. There was food left on the edge of the table, when I leaned forward to listen to my son, my satin blouse got covered in it. They did take the first lot of drinks off our bill. But I was so looking forward to it and I was so disappointed.
