Back in the very early 1970s, I used to live in nearby Palace Road. We called the area The Golden Square, simply because we had The Red Lion, The Anglesea Arms, The Freelands Tavern, The Crown and Anchor and The White Horse...all within a 5 minute walk of each other.It was a truly wonderful time to live in what was basically a village within a town. Friendly and welcoming pub. Nice and cosy, lots of entertainment and games such as pool/darts. Drinks are more expensive than other places nearby but worth paying the extra for the environment/vibe.

Friendly locals pub. It’s great in the winter with their big open fire. Staff are welcoming, chatty and friendly. Some more interesting beers would be great though. Nicely tucked away down some backstreets with other pubs nearby to crawl to.
