The food was very good, spoiled by an extortionate charge for extra custard. £1.95 for a tiny jug. Possibly made it more expensive than the wine. The staff were cheerful and efficient in taking orders and serving our food and drinks. The food was all hot and very tasty, particularly the sea bream. This made it all the more disappointing to be given a tiny jug of custard for dessert and then told any more would cost us £1.95 for a tiny jug. This just detracted from an otherwise very pleasant lunchtime.

I called last minute for availability for a table of ten and the woman on the phone worked hard to fit my family in. Our table was lovely, slightly tucked away so it felt personal, and the pub had lots of similar nooks and spaces, and isn’t too loud, perfect for conversations with loved ones over good food and drink. The ale selection was great, including landlord and doom bar, and the wine list included many favourites. We were served quickly and the servers were lovely. Our food was great, and the vegan food options were numerous and praised by those who ordered them. I had the pork and I couldn’t recommend it enough - so tender and delicious with the baked apple. A great experience from the booking process, the servers, the location, the food and the drink. Brilliant.

I visited The Jobbers Rest on 19 January, and as always the food and service was amazing. The main reason for leaving a review is to say a huge thank you for the manager who found space to squeeze me in a very busy restaurant when I had, in error, booked a 17:15 table for four, when I meant to book a 19:15 table. Clearly my error, but the manager was fantastic when it would have been so much easier for her to turn me away. I’d also like to thank the young man who was serving our table, and still in training, he was a credit to the restaurant.

Food good staff friendly. We asked for separate bills at the start. Because it was a birthday celebration we were told by our waitress that bottle of prosecco was free as there were 8. Also free glass for me as birthday. Not only were we charged for the free bottle and glass of prosecco the bills were a mess with charges for starters and drinks being put on one bill. Won't be going back

we held my mothers wake here ..we had looked at other local places but the jobbers stood out from the beginning..we popped in to see the place and was given a warm welcome with a lovely cup of coffee, a member of staff talked us through options & we went ahead & booked …on the day All ran very smoothly food was fantastic even catering with plenty of choice for dietary requirements (gluten free) all canapés sandwiches and desserts were of a high standard and plentiful…bar staff were friendly and service was excellent ..my dad had never been here before but was so impressed on how mums wake was delivered. he’s planning on coming here again …huge thank you to the jobbers rest fantastic all round …our private area was just that very private without being shut off so still a good feel to it…again thank you to all at the jobbers rest

Not the first time we’ve been to The Jobber’s Rest and it won’t be the last. From the hello on arrival and the goodbyes on departure we were made to feel very special. The food and service we received were nothing short of excellent.

Table we were offered was next to a long table of about 9 very noisy children plus their parents. When asked to be moved were shown to what looked like a garden table with low arm chairs, totally unsuitable to eat from. Reluctantly went back to 1st table. The starters we ordered were good, my grandson’s main was fine. I had lamb roulade which was quite grisly, dauphanoise potatoes which were luke warm plus 3 tiny carrots which were nearly mush they were so overcooked. Ate quickly and left as noise from children screaming at one another was over the top, parents made no attempt to control them at all. I appreciate kids have to be kids but in a restaurant where people are paying good money to eat it it’s a bit out of order. It’s a shame as have quite a number of very pleasant relaxed enjoyable meals here in the past

Booked the private dining room 3 weeks in advance for a large party of 15. We were a mixture of adults and children ranging from 2-13 years so I specially told them at the time of booking that we’d like the private dining area. It was a celebration dinner and so I wanted to ensure we did not impact other diners and thought a private space would be better for the children. I was told it was already booked at 1pm but that we could have it at 4pm so I went ahead and booked, paid the deposit and sent over our pre order. Utterly disappointed to arrive for our dinner and find we’d be seated in the main restaurant. No prior warning or phone call and when asked why I was told we couldn’t fit in the private dining area. When I queried later why there was a booking in the private dining area at the same time I’d booked I was told they booked it in august. I’ve no idea what the real answer was but did not appreciate being lied to or mislead. They were apologetic and we got a round of drinks free but I do feel our party impacted other diners which I felt bad for. Although the food was satisfactory and I appreciated the vegetable top up with the roast, I’d not make a booking here again based on the fact I wouldn’t trust my booking would be honoured. The waitress however was attentive and helpful and the setting of the pub was cosy and welcoming.

We were a party of 30 for a milestone Birthday, we had autumn Sunday menu catering for many dietary requirements, the food was excellent, generous portions and great quality ingredients. Lovely atmosphere and the service was absolutely outstanding, every request was dealt with and the lunch ran really smoothly, I would absolutely recommend for any occasion, whether it’s a dinner for 2 or a party of 30

We arrived with no booking on a Saturday about 3pm. Super busy but we managed to get a table for two - in the corner by a window - perfect.Very polite and helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble.Fantastic starters of cheese soufflé and fresh mussels. We both had the herb crusted lamb roulade with dauphinois as the main - all delicious! Desserts of pistachio soufflé and another of strawberry, salted caramel ice cream with blackcurrant sorbet. Hot lattes arrived at the same time as the desserts - amazing!Even though it was very busy the staff were attentive and did not appear stressed. The food arrived hot and without delay. One of our favourite venues in the area. Recommend 100 per cent.

THE JOBBERS RESTAURANT UPMINSTER – A SEAMLESS TRANSITION Our experiences at The Jobbers have always been extremely positive. I have no doubt that this has been due to the management style that has motivated its’ staff. This was led by Amanda who had a relaxed but exact ethos. I hoped that (on hearing of her moving on to a more senior position) the same quality of service would remain. My expectations were not diminished on my last two visits. The service is still of the highest quality and well maintained by Toby and Sophie who continue to welcome their guests as though they are family. We are consistently made to feel valued, and no request proves too much, or results in any hesitation on their part. Daryl looked after us on Friday (under the careful eye of Sophie) and proved to have the same care for his customers. The service would not matter if the food did not match its standards, and I am pleased to say that every dish we ordered on Friday for the four of us matched the quality one would expect from a top quality establishment. The crab and corn starters had a delicate taste with a hint of spice that was easily edible. The fish soup received praise from one of our guests for its contents, but also its’ hearty flavours. My pork dish was succulent and moist and I was told the mussels tasted fresh with just the right amount of flavouring. Sophie enchanted our friends who rated the service and food as good as anywhere they had visited in London. I am loathe to recommend this restaurant as it is already exceedingly busy; but my selfishness should not override the praise it deserves – you won’t be disappointed. CS

I’ve seen several ads on Facebook for The Jobbers Rest. Having checked their hygiene rating (5 stars) and many nice reviews, we popped down there for some impromptu lunch. On arrival they provided water & treats for our dog. Made a fuss of her, which was nice. We had duck leg cassoulet, beef & ale pie; followed by apple & gooseberry crumble and a pistachio soufflé. The food was absolutely delicious! The service polite & pleasant. Nice atmosphere and decor. Would highly recommend. Pleasant option for dog owners, which is a rare find. Thank you.
