Lovely pub, been in many times before (with the dog), however due to Sam Smiths stupid rules you now can't take dogs in. We actually managed 2 rounds of drinks before being told, so we left, leaving the pub empty, and walked upto the Dog Friendly Cheshire Cheese. So its bye bye to The White Gates, and Hello to the Cheshire Cheese just up the road - with a lot more choice of ales and lagers.

Landlady is wonderful. Customers are great. You can't use your phone and there's no music or TV but do you know what makes it so great? People actually have conversations and listen to each other, after all, there is nothing worse than talking to a mate who's got one eye on their phone, the other eye on the big screen and one ear listening in to other people and one ear on the DJ. Plus there's a real fire which is lovely. The beer is well kept, great value for money and the glasses are very clean. There's no lipstick on those pint pots lol which I have noticed in some pubs ha ?

Staff ok but asked for my beer to be topped up was told no ,it wasn't a measure glass so as we know a pint is to top of glass tried to point this out to be shouted down by the regulars telling me if I didn't like it drink elsewhere .all I want was a full pint tried to ex the rulers which fell on deaf ears

Sam Smith's pub. Always enjoy going back here. Glad to say it hasn't changed since the last visit in 2019. A very friendly place where the locals will not ignore, but involve you in their conversation. This is a real pub.

Great Staff, and Great Atmosphere, always warm and welcoming with good Banter.
Great little pub in Hyde but unfortunately they put their prices up by over £1 a pint I used to go in regular but now after the price increase due to the coronavirus it's crossed off my list. If you don't mind paying premium prices there's lot of history and decor in there especially at the back room.
