The Edinburgh Castle Dining Room, on the first floor of the Edinburgh Castle Pub, is a fantastic Mancunian foodie jewel, serving great British sourced food, right in the heart of Ancoats. With a menu that changes frequently to make the most of what's currently in season, it's not to be missed! The restaurant offers a high-quality dining experience, with a focus on locally-sourced ingredients. The service has toned down talking about the local origins of the food, but that's still the main selling point - everything is from the UK, and is as local as possible. The starters, such as the fresh and tasty oysters, and the standout beetroot and goats cheese plate, are well-executed. The sourdough bread and butter, made with local Ancoats institution Pollen, is a delight. For mains, the dumplings and the skate wings with Jersey Royal potatoes are both well-cooked, with the Jersey Royal mash being particularly delicious. The chips cooked on beef fat are a must-try, with a crisp, flavourful texture. The star of the show, however, is the dessert - a half dozen fresh Madeleines, with a rich taste and almost biscuity texture. The price for a three-course meal, including wine, is around £65 per person, making it an expensive but worthwhile experience. The dining room is located on the first floor, with the toilets in the basement, so accessibility may be an issue for some. Overall, the Edinburgh Castle Dining Room offers a high-quality, seasonal British dining experience in the heart of Ancoats.
