A fine spot for a pre theatre dinner. The food is really quite good and the staff so very friendly. The menu is very limited, but as they say, better to do a few things really well than lots of things badly. That, however is where the problem is. The menu is advertised as two or three courses for £27.50 or £33.50. Fair enough. The choice on mains has fish, chicken red meat , vegetarian and vegan. But here is where the lie is and the reason not to give 5 stars. The red meat option is Lamb and they charge a whopping FIVE POUNDS SUPPLEMENT. Since when was Lamb more expensive that Salmon or chicken??? If you cannot source produce and sell withing the confines of the offer then provide something you can do. I'm sure those that take the Cauliflower Steak - yes you read that correctly - are subsiding the rest too. A bit of a rip off and less than honest if you want a red meat dish.

Been to The Lowry a number of times, but this time decided to pre-book a 2-course pre-show dinner. It was a good choice. Foord was interesting and very good (eg Beetroot terrine to start) and there was a good choice of wines. Service wasa friendly and efficient, and we felt we had had a very relaxing start to our night at the theatre (although the play that followed was awful!!)

Great food. Great staff. Served some of the best food we have eaten. Great atmosphere with comfortable seating.

Airplane food. Tasteless . Dry chicken . Void of atmosphere . A truly bad experience. Save your money and eat elsewhere

Had a lovely meal here before a theatre show. The food was really tasty with good vegetarian options. What really made the experience exceptional was our server Lara who simply couldn't have been nicer. She was such a genuinely warm and sincere person and really is a credit to your team. Thank you for a wonderful time.

The Pier Eight restaurant is extremely well organised for dinner before the theatre. We booked for 5.30pm when the performance was due to start at 7pm. We had plenty of time for three courses (we had originally intended to have only two). It took away all the stress of going to a restaurant unconnected with the theatre and being unsure whether you would have to rush. The menu was not large but evidently well tailored to a pre-theatre meal. Our starters were served only a few minutes after ordering and the main course was brought out as soon as we had finished our starters. The waiters were generallly very effficient and pleasant. Our food was very good. My trout in particular was outstanding, accompanied by caulifower puree and broccoli. The portions were not large but apprpriate for a pre-theatre meal when you don't want to feel too full. All the courses were skilfully presented It was expensive and I would rather spend more on theatre tickets and less on food but I would certainly go again before going to see a performance at the Lowry.

I had dinner with a friend. The restaurant was less than half full, and there was plenty of wait staff. But it took two hours to eat dinner. Our waitress rarely came to our table, and she was not on the floor. She has our table (2), a 4 top, and a 3 top. I ordered hush puppies. They were raw inside. I sent them back, and they were still raw. The oysters were priced well and they were fresh. Actually, the oysters are the only item that I would recommend. The drinks were all in small glasses. The boil was okay but very bland. Unless you don't normally eat cajun food, stay away.

For a joint birthday we were booked into this is well run restaurant for our first ever meal. I had the black pudding, which was extremely tasty while the wife had a mackerel starter. We both had the lamb rump which was tender, tasty and cooked to perfection. For a first visit it easily was one of the best first visit meals ever.

Came for a pre theatre dinner and was very happy with the whole experience. Staff was lovely especially our waiter (sorry we forgot to take names!) but probably one of the best so far we have had. He made sure to talk to us and we were not rushed. He was great at his job and made us laugh. Food was great. Great portion and decent price altogether. We were full by the end of the three course! We were worried that we were gonna cut it close to our show but food came in good time and even had 20 minutes spare to just sit and chat. Will recommend and we hope to come back again for another meal before theatre!

Had a fantastic lunch with my friend. Pre theatre menu. Everything was brilliant. Food delicious and well presented. Service amazing. Our waiter Alexi was the best, he made our lunch experience. Lovely ambience. Don’t miss before the show

The food is decent and ok value for the price. The service is friendly and attentive. The wine is mediocre and overpriced

Had a wonderful meal at Pier Eight before the performance of Othello. Fantastic staff, polite and helpful service. The food was served promptly and was of excellent quality.

Visited on a Saturday evening after seeing a show at The Lowry. Despite being a volunteer at the theatre this was my first visit. After a warm welcome we both enjoyed three courses and the staff were very accommodating with our requests. All dishes for both of us were excellent: I had a beetroot based starter with pitta bread, a surprisingly tasty cauliflower steak with kale and a lovely sauce (with excellent chips for a very reasonable supplement) and a truly outstanding vanilla cheesecake for dessert. My wife enjoyed a pate based starter, a chicken rosti dish they adapted from the set menu and a chocolate torte that was nice but a little rich for our tastes (we shared the desserts). What I found most refreshing was that whilst the food was very high quality the service was professional yet informal. Sean, Dao, Oonagh and a friendly waiter (whose name I did not catch but who made sure I got my staff discount which I had forgotten about) were all a credit to the hospitality industry. My only minor gripe is that, common with many other restaurants, it took a while to get someone's attention to pay the bill, possibly due to the fact that many customers were heading on to a show just as we were finishing our meal. The menu is quite short but this helps maintain quality I think and cuts deliberation (would like to see it on the Lowry website though as the summer menu is on at the time of writing this). If you get the chance and they appeal to you make sure you have the chips and the vanilla cheesecake (which was clearly popular with other customers judging by the number being brought out). Highly recommended and we will be returning.

Not sure why this place wasn't busier, great place to have something to eat before a show. There was a party of 4, we pre-paid for he 3 course menu, all 4 people enjoyed the starter, main course and dessert. Nice place overlooking the canal, lovely food and very friendly staff, we will certainly be booking again before a show.

Food was way below par for what was £27 for two small courses. Fish tart was devoid of anything remotely fishy tasting and a gritty salad. Chicken breast over cooked and rubbery in a bed of something (cabbage maybe? Watery nothingness) tasteless coupled with potatoes that tasted old. Risotto was watery and over cooked. Wrong dishes came out on first attempt and bread didn’t arrive. On the plus side, the wine was ok. Won’t be rushing back.
