Visiting with my daughter today and made to feel very welcomed. A dog friendly pub, fed our Labradors with plenty of treats and provided water for them without having to ask. A nice honest pub offering great food, excellent service and a nice warm and relaxing environment. Definitely worth coming back for, thank you.

We had pie and chips and whitebait and chips the wife's whitebait and chips were OK my pie was just taken out of the tinfoil and warmed up in a microwave hot on the outside and warm in the middle of rubbery pastry but chips were hot . Then the apple pie and custard again obviously warmed up in the microwave the pastry was like eating the bottom of my slipper and custard was cold . The tables were so sticky I had trouble lifting my elbows off of the table . Please wipe your feet on the way out .

What a lovely pub! Food was fantastic (proper full slice of gammon!), service was great and two roaring fires, perfect for a cold day. We'll be back.

Despite having family on the island this was the first time we had been to the Maypole. We came here with 3 elderly relatives (85+) who had booked a table for 5 people. We sat down at our table and it took a long while for us to have our order taken - which is fine. But after that it took another good 45 minutes before had our starters and another 45 for our main meals. The staff were apologetic but they said that there were two other tables who also ordered food at the same time, which was why it was taking longer. If it wasn’t for our elderly relatives, who were having trouble staying awake by the time they got their food, it wouldn’t have been an issue.I think perhaps the establishment could do with more kitchen staff - since meals for 3 tables shouldn’t have taken as long as it did.The food itself was perfectly pleasant but not so good that we will be returning in the near future, I’m afraid.

Arrived at opening time, greeted by a cosy open fire, staff & service could not be faulted. We had a group of 8 adults (5 different menu choices) and could not fault any of the food. The fish & chips was particularly good as was the burger, 3 of our group had the pie, mash & liqueur (ex londoners) and were all surprised at the quantity and quality, all said it was the best they have had in years. Could not fault anything on our visit, will happily return. Good luck to the new tenants, you deserve to have much success.

Beautiful pub decorated for Christmas, we were made to feel really welcome including our children and our dog. The food was hot, fresh and the pie, mash and liquor tasted like it does at home in London. A bit of fun playing darts too. What a lovely experience. Highly recommend.

Pleasant, relaxed venue - 3 open fireplaces, with two in the main bar area - always nice. Pleasant service, and friendly staff. Drinks only, but nice to return, after having not been here for a couple of years.

Needed a camper stopover with food. We were in for a treat. Parked the camper near the beer garden, very quiet. Fish and Chip supper, top nosh, chips served in a basket, not greasy at all, fresh, maybe frozen peas, lovely, fish covered by a really nice batter, crispy, not fatty or oily, fish cook very nice. Service very polite and helpful. Next trip to or from Portsmouth, we know where we are going to stopover. Thank you Julie ?

Delightful pub - very welcoming and warm.We had never been here before but were hungry and cold and thought we would try it. We had our two dogs with us who also needed to be fed.The lady in charge was really helpful suggesting food suitable for the dogs at a very reasonable price and brought up in little cardboard trays for them. This meant that we were able to relax and eat our own food without having to rush.If only every pub was like this - friendly, homely and a perfect example of a great English pub - thank you. We look forward to returning soon.Vegetarian options: I had the vegetarian pie, mash & liquor - good flavour and filling on a cold afternoon.
