The Olive Leaf
48 Sea Front, Hayling IslandWe really enjoyed our evening meal here after a day playing on the beach with our ever-energetic Springer spaniel. By the time we arrived, sandy, smiling and thoroughly worn out, we’d definitely worked up an appetite, and possibly burned off enough calories to justify pudding (purely for recovery purposes, of course).
To start, we shared the basilica sausage and mozzarella arancini. They arrived perfectly crisp on the outside, giving way to a wonderfully creamy, cheesy centre with just the right hit of herby and savoury sausage. A comforting and flavour-packed beginning.
For mains, my husband chose the pulled lamb shepherd’s pie, which was rich, tender and deeply satisfying, with beautifully seasoned lamb beneath a golden, fluffy, cheesy mash topping. I opted for the mushroom bourguignon pie with merlot gravy: a hearty, comforting dish full of earthy mushrooms, plenty of seasonal greens and a luscious, wine-infused sauce that felt indulgent.
Dessert was non-negotiable. Hubby enjoyed a classic tarte Tatin with cream: sticky, caramelised apples beneath crisp pastry, the cream melting gently into the warm pud. I chose the lemon meringue pie with ice cream, which was the perfect balance of sharp citrus and sweet, cloud-like meringue, the ice cream adding a lovely cool contrast.
The atmosphere was welcoming, and we particularly appreciated that dogs are made just as welcome as their humans. Our spaniel settled in happily, though judging by the hopeful stare directed at our plates, she felt equally entitled to review the menu herself. Five paw prints from Holly, even if she only sampled the ambience.
As a side note, I have never seen such clean and pretty pub toilets with such thoughtful complementary toiletries should one need.
A truly lovely spot to refuel and unwind, would definitely go back.

Gandhi Tandoori hayling island
Ghandhi Tandoori, 58 Hollow Ln, Hayling IslandJust had a takeaway from here, since it’s been taken over. ( Royal Edana )
And I have to say it’s easily the best Indian food I’ve had on hayling island. Everything tastes so fresh and cooked to order. The onion bhaji and sag aloo were 10/10. Also highly recommend the poppadoms with pickle tray - the mango chutney is out of this world.
I was also very pleased when offered half a pint of beer on collection!
Price is very competitive.
Would 100% recommend!

Ruby’s tearoom hayling
6b Elm Grove, Hayling IslandVisited Lucy’s tea rooms at the end of our break on Hayling Island and highly recommend it. Freshly decorated, clean, bright and very welcoming. Abi the barista makes a LOVELY cappuccino. Our party only tried the cakes (scones, bread pudding and lemon curd tart) and we all loved Chef Gosia’s work. I am still thinking about the scones now…….! Menu very extensive/lots of choice for sweet, savoury, small snacks or full meals. Came away very impressed.

The Moghul Brasserie
15-17 Elm Grove, Hayling IslandWoW ! what lovely food, we have used this restaurant only twice for take aways and have found the food excellent. I personally love the Chicken Jalfrezi which has a nice little spicey kick to it. Furthermore, the deliveries are very quick, the food has always been hot, so we will be using this establishment every time we fancy a very nice curry.

Groves - Restaurant and Bar
22 C, 22C Elm Grove, Hayling IslandWe dropped in this restaurant for some food but unfortunately the chef was ill so wasn't able to sample the menu. But, the owner and staff were wonderful, helping us with alternative options for food across the island, even calling restaurants to make sure kitchens were open.
We had a drink, well priced, just relaxing. Would recommend a visit, nice patrons, nice place and nice people.

Agaligo
51 Station Rd, Hayling IslandGreat food crap service
Cramped space
Despite making a reservation our table wasn't ready when we arrived
My friend had gravy spilled over his arm and the waiter nearly knocked a glass of red wine over.
When two of the dishes arrived we had to send them back to the kitchen as the food was cold
They had the cheek to add 12.50% to the bill for service (????)
I got them to remove it
When I got home I found that the chair that I had been sitting on had had gravy spilt over it so my trousers were stained. I am now faces with a dry cleaning bill on top of the cost of nearly £180
Might be OK for a takeaway but I will not go back in for a full meal
I notice that many of the reports are over 12 months old
I also note that the overall score is down as 5 stars what a joke I'd give it 3 stars max

The Lifeboat Inn
30 Sea Front, Hayling IslandWasn't sure about this pub having seen some of the reviews. The building itself is a bit tired and has seen better days but we didn't go here for the arcitecture. Called in on a Friday afternoon and found out they had a band on Saturday night (The Zed men, I believe) who were most entertaining playing a good range of covers. The atmosphere was great with everyone dancing and enjoying themselves, its very much a locals pub, they were all very friendly. We will certainly go back next time we are on the island.

The Missing Squirrel
Mill Rythe Ln, Hayling IslandWe didn't have any food in here just drinks, but the atmosphere was good and the bar staff were fun. We did attend karaoke one night. It was very quiet in there unfortunately so it was only two groups singing so it ended early. We still had a good time though.

Greggs
181 Havant Rd., HampshireGreat produce as always across this franchise. Morning rush would hv been better (quicker) served with more than 1 person working, given coffee, bacon & sausage sandwiches take time to prepare, serve and take payment. Queue out the door by the time I left, but I wasn't in a rush...& the mince pies & chicken slice were worth it!

Whistler's Fine Fish & Chips
47 Station Rd, South Hayling, Hayling IslandFirst time I’ve stopped here, certainly not the last! We were warmly welcomed by a lovely lady. She took our order and told us it would be a 10 minute wait as the cod was large and cooked fresh. Food arrived and it was perfect. Light crispy batter (not heavy and greasy), soft, succulent cod, cooked to perfection. Chips were delicious too. Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, and distinct taste of beef dripping. Living in Guildford, it’s easy to forget what good fish and chips tastes like. This was a superb reminder and well worth the trip to the coast alone. Thank you ?

The Barley Mow
Manor Road, Hayling IslandAfter walking the whole length of the Hayling Billy Trail we called into The Barley Mow. It was a beautiful sunny, warm day so we decided to sit outside. On entering the pub/restaurant I was greeted by Sam. A very polite, knowledgeable person who advised what was available and served with a smile. A pint of John Smiths for me, a Diet Coke for my wife and a cold bowl of water for my dog. We also opted for two bacon & egg rolls which were cooked to perfection and quickly too. Very tasty! Thank you to all the staff who contributed to our short visit especially Sam who went that extra mile. We will definitely be visiting again.

Coastguard Cafe
14-16 Sea Front, Hayling IslandCame over to see my sister and her partner who are here in an Airbnb and I just had the nicest fish and chips that I can remember. That fish for me was just perfect. Nice and thick, with a light batter, and a lovely lot of chips. We had 4 fish and 2 chips spread across 4 boxes, and I thought I was in heaven. Honestly can't praise that fish enough ??. I'm coming back for more, no question.
