I cannot fault the ladies nor the coffee but the food we chose unfortunately disappointed us. The toilets were out of order. This lovely setting could do a lot better with small improvements. Sadly I will not go back.

I was utterly shocked at the state of this place, especially for a central Winchester setting. I booked this through red letter days, expecting a decent cream tea for my nans birthday.Boy oh boy was i wrong. The place to start with was drab, dirty, looked like a school cafeteria. we had to wipe down a table for ourself.Food was horrendous. Sandwiches were thin, lacking filling and flavour. quite frankly a boots meal deal would have been nicer and i have had children make better sandwiches. Stingy with the cakes, only gave us one full size slice and cut it in half. half the cream was missing off the top. 1 STALE profiteroll each and the cream was hard. utterly disgusting. Other cake were obviously old as weren't holding shape and tasted dry.the scones, the bit my nan was most looking forward to were SOLID AS ROCKS. i could whack them on the side and not a crumb.i have no idea how this place is serving food. it is horrible. I am seeking compensation for this visit and would highly suggest you do not go here.

Dear Patisserie Valerie in WinchesterIt was a cloudy afternoon, our son and us decided to walk around Winchester to discover the area. Looking in the window, my son said “ I wish I can have some macarons” So we decided to buy him a pack of 6. Came out of the shop he dropped the whole pack on the floor. Didn’t know what to say but the man come out with the new pack of 12 macarons and said to us “you can have this”It terribly touched my heart.I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your incredible act of kindness towards my child. Your warm-hearted truly touched our hearts and restored our faith in humanity. In today world, it is truly inspiring to come across individuals like you. Your gesture not only brought a smile to the child's face but also filled our heart with joy and happiness. Your act of compassion has had a lasting impact on our child and family, creating a memory we’ll cherish forever.Your generosity goes beyond the act, has reminded us of the power of kindness and the boundless capacity of the human heart.I wanted to express our heartfelt thanks for your kindness and generosity. Your selfless act has not only nourished a young soul but has also spread joy and renewed faith in the goodness that exists all around us.Wishing you continued blessings and happiness. With sincerest gratitude,

Awful. Really awful. I’m not one to leave negative reviews and have worked in the industry so I know the signs when a place isn’t run properly. I should have trusted my gut. Honestly I wish I hadn’t eaten it. Me and my wife aren’t feeling right this evening. Had an afternoon tea and the teapots were filthy, yellow stains on the milk pots, stale bread, cakes were soggy, profiteroles were stale. One sandwich seemed to just be lettuce which was also not in the best condition. On top of that the staff from the get go were pretty unprofessional. I’m not expecting to be treat like a prince or whatever, but they really didn’t care and made that abundantly obvious from the second we spoke to them. I really can’t stress the teapot thing. It was grim. If you can’t even be bothered to do pot wash properly what are you doing in a restaurant. Judging by the other reviews a lot of people are having the same experience. Avoid this place like the plague. No matter if they respond to any of these posts and apologise and give some spiel just do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. Truly truly awful. Oh and the bathroom was a state. Water everywhere, pee stains all over the seat, no hand soap in the dispenser and a loose toilet roll sat on the side of the sink which was also very wet so the toilet roll was soggy. Honestly it’s as if every person working there either doesn’t care at all, or this is their first job and they’re really really bad at it. Really entry level stuff to keep your pots clean and have someone clean the toilet.

We went on a Sunday for afternoons tea, not busy only 3 tables of customers. We had to wait a while for the tea and food to arrive. The cutlery were so dirty that we were sure they had not been washed because we could wipe the food off by our fingers. ?The milk jar was so dirty that the stain came off and got into the milk!!! ?Tea pot was gunky, we were scared to eat the food because everything was so dirty. The table next to us had leftover food and drink there the whole time we were there. The bathroom is so dirty that I decided to hold it in…If I can give it 0 star I would. Ruined our day. Never again.

I cannot believe that this cafe is allowed to remain open! After reading other reviews it would seem that the management are doing nothing to improve it. Tables were not cleared and left dirty. Food was disappointing, some things were not available for Saturday lunch. Service was poor and unfriendly. Toilets were disgusting.

Went in on a hot summers day, not busy at all. Half the tables were left with dirty plates and glasses on that hadn’t been cleared up. We sat and ordered drinks and food from a waiter that for some reason thought he was Live at the Apollo, swearing all over the place. After we got our drinks my iced latte had no ice in, and just seemed like the alternative milk had been sitting in the fridge for too long. The glasses for our water were dirty and so was my latte. We ordered food that was sub par. The baguette we had was full of mustard which it did not state on the menu. The bagel included burnt lettuce and rocket, finished off with a hair on the plate.

As others have witnessed we too experienced poor service and a long wait. Arrived just after 2pm after clearly a busy lunch period. Ordered an afternoon tea after 10mins to be then told 20mins later that they didn't have any more scones! How can they have run out of scones at the start of the afternoon? Told they didn't have time to cook any more and we were offered tosted tea cakes. Food arrived 50 mins after arriving with an apology saying it was fiddly to get made. Really?!!! Sandwiches were nice but had 2 chicken and pesto and 1 ham and mustard each. We did have 2 sets of tea and coffee which was nice but had to ask for sugar each time.Rather concerning was that about 4 tables remained covered with empty cups and plates for at least 30mins and 1 couple left because they didn't have scones after waiting some time. Poor management and lack of staff I imagine.Interesting to note that one member of staff did have time to repeatedly look at her phone behind the counter.

Me and friend stopped for a bite hoping that the place had gotten better since the last time we went three years ago. No change. We'll change but it's worse. Loos where disgusting. Drinks took ages and then we read the reviews and cancelled our food. The only person worth paying was the blond lady making the drinks. Also with your responses to the posts on here, do you actually sort the problem or is it an automated response?

Arrived afternoon Sunday 27th Aug. The restaurant was mostly empty, yet every table was dirty. We stayed as previous experiences in patisserie Valerie elsewhere have been good, cleared a table ourselves and sat down. After a while, we went to the counter to order, and was curtly instructed to return to our table and wait for a waitress. The waitress eventually turned up, took our order, then returned 5 mins later telling us the order we had made was no longer in stock. We changed to a scone, to which again curtly informed this would cause a wait (she plainly didn’t want us to order this, presumably as it was effort for her). When she brought the food over, she placed the tray of hot drinks in east reach of our 10 month old, then reacted rudely when we moved it away from the baby. Awful experience, rude surly staff, filthy restaurant - we will not return, and would advise anyone else from going as well.

We turned up at 2pm for their signature cream tea. The chap behind counter said the person making the cream tea goes at midday but he was still here so would ask if he could do is one ! We waited for a thumbs up lol! They were his words. I told them I was trying to call the land line to make sure we could come but no answer. One chap explained it is poor phone service in the patisserie! Told him I was ringing a land line and he still said it must have been network issue my end ! It wasn’t as it was ringing. So to sum up our visit: No spoons No forks Initially no cream A very long wait Dirty table Dirty cups Our tea was stone cold by the time the cakes etc came out. We were told no scones but magically some came and they were very nice ! The lovely man Perry and the other man in the black shirt and black apron were clearly struggling. Empty inside and a few eating outside. Perry said many were closing down, I wonder why?
