We went for breakfast today (table of 7) like we frequently do. We always experience good service however, this morning we not only recieved good service but the breakfast buffet area was kept exceptionally clean, stocked and organised by your crew. So much so I asked your employees name to thank her for being so attentive. *Kristin* took great pride in the service she delivered and was incredibly helpful when my young son got in a sticky mess with some honey. Arrived at the Premier Inn next door on a Thursday. Came to the Starting Gate for food in the evening. First order of chips were cold, replaced with another portion that were warmer, but still not hot. Last orders were called at 21.45 (opening hours state open until 23.00). On the Friday, following a funeral, a group of 12 of us were drinking (a wake, if you will). Last orders called at 21.55 (10 minutes or so they wer giving us to order). 22.05 we approached the bar with an order of drinks to place, to be told they had already closed the till down. The opening hours state they close at 23.00. A group of 12 having drinks following a funeral wasn't enough to keep the bar open anywhere close to their stated opening hours.

Food was ok, a little on the cold side but ediable, service was extremely slow, staff were friendly but it all seemed unorganised. Could of also done with the heating turned up as I was quiet chilly but didn't fancy eating with my coat on.

Great place for breakfast and the fun loving lady, who I have to mention, Karen could not do enough for everyone and she was flat out seeing people to their tables and cleaning up and still had time to have friendly banter with all our group for the two days we were there .We will be back !

Complete shambles, unable to cope with all the bookings they had greedily taken, rude manager who had no people skills, was rude and unable to deal with all that was going on. Tables full of dirty cups and plates. Food and drinks not topped up. Would avoid at all costs!!.

Rude staff, apart from one lovely lady who is always helpful. A manager who was out of her depth, was unable to cope and lacked people skills, something I would say was a must in that type of role!!. There were too many customers, the management were being greedy and taking bookings they couldn’t handle. The staff were unable to cope, with tables full of dirty plates and cutlery and the breakfast buffet running out of food with long customer queues.

I arrived at my slotted time with a party of 15. We were very badly treated as there were other groups being seated while a staff member with no clue was fobbing me off. Eventually offered a table for 11 am that didn't fit our racing plans .We purchased a round of ales approx £80 plus what 15 brakfasts at £10.99 is a massive loss to take and they don't deserve any custom whatsoever. Absolutel'y appalling as I was contacted by the pub manager Tom on the Thursday confirming my booking.

I have had an excellent experience at the starting gate, the staff are accommodating, well mannered and very helpful, I would recommend it to anyone who wanted a great meal, or just a drink at the bar.
Absolutely awful experience with very rude unkempt young man behind the bar who decided even though there was a queue of 30+ people he was going to serve a couple who walked straight to front of queue. When challenged he became abusive and was clearly showing off to a group of girls. Wouldn't bother with the place again as it is substandard at the best of times.

Really friendly service, nice food and attentive staff. We stayed at the premier inn across the road from The Starting Gate. We needed some heated milk to help our baby daughter go off to sleep and the barman was happy to oblige. In the morning, we went across for breakfast which was great. Lots of choice and a nice atmosphere! Would visit again.Kid-friendliness: Staff are very friendly and had a little chat with our daughter.

We called in yesterday for a steak meal. Everything about this restaurant has improved tremendously...wow!....the staff, service, food ....our steaks were most succulent . Thank you to our excellent waiter Joe, and it was great to have a brief chat to the lovely Renata, who is always so friendly. See you all again soon.

We called yesterday and ordered steak and chips. The steaks were really succulent, and meals very well presented. Joe, our waiter was excellent, and we briefly chatted to Renata who we had met before....such a lovely person. Everything about this restaurant has improved beyond belief. We will now not hesitate to go again.

Brilliant meal and great service, Joe was absolutely fabulous and went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed our meal. Our only issue was the noise from the Christmas party behind us,a separate area for large groups would be beneficial.
