Went here following a recommendation & it didn’t disappoint, traditional country pub with amazing homemade food at incredibly affordable prices..Easter Sunday & a roast dinner choice of either large or small plate was less than £13 per person (smaller plates were cheaper too)…Great atmosphere, not rushed, booking is recommended for either large or small parties..Will definitely be going again soon..

Really friendly traditional pub with no nonsense home style cooked food and a great pint of either Doombar or Reverend James - Not a Gastro Pub, but a Proper Pub!

Lovely atmosphere. Great service and the food was hot and well presented. Great old fashioned pub.

Update April 2022 :The pub is basically back to normal as a proper pub, with no social distancing restrictions etc. Food is no longer served in the evenings, just lunchtime. The pub cat Windy has sadly since died. Currently, I am trying to persuade Landlord Dave to stock some decent low alcohol bottled bitters e.g. Old Specked Hen 0.5%, which knocks spots off the Heineken lager versions. Last orders are now more strictly enforced at 11.30pm most days.Original review during lockdown :I only came by to photograph the post box for Google Maps and found the pub outside all stripped back to the bare cement colour, so an opertunity for a new suite of pub outside photos for Maps. A new fenced-in outside tables layout has appeared to encourage social distancing during the post COVID-19 virus lockdown, ready for the predicted 4th July 2020 reopening. The outside smokers area with heater and awning is being moved from front roadside to the rear. The landlord Dave said the internal woodwork was in the process of being rubbed down, but I wasn't going in there during lockdown, so we will have to wait with curiosity on the pub's final new look. Please LIKE with a ? if you have found this review helpful thank you

Now been sitting here for 1 hour still awaiting the lunch to turn up. Would understand if it was busy. The pub it self is nice. But the landlord seems to be the only one keeping the place working well. He was out today. And it showed!!!

A fantastic welcoming local proper pub

Positive: Nice pub, nice location, friendly staff and locals with a nice selection of beers.Negative: Food was poor, we had a burger, came plain with no salad onions or anything and it was very very dry, also had selected sausages in large Yorkshire pudding: This was in fact catering sausages tinned veg with a bit of Bisto gravy. If I was to ever to return it would not be for food.

Dave the Landlord is a diamond, nothing is too much trouble, the staff too, a really lovely original pub, couple of regulars had, had a few, but were friendly and jovial with it

We took some friends from abroad to this pub as they wanted to visit a typical old English pub and to eat a typical meal and a pint of beer. Unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. We had to wait an hour for the food to be served, the garlic mushrooms were full of liquid, looked like they had been frozen and not thawed properly, the chips were flavourless and gave the impression they had been reheated. The beer Doombar quickly lost its flavour and became warm while we were waiting so long. My steak and kidney pie was inedible apart from the meat. It appears that day the pub was having an unannounced hygiene inspection which caused the delay. The lady serving us apologised and gave us a small deduction off the bill. Very disappointing introduction to English food and beer for our friends, especially as previous visits to this pub had been fine.

Spur of the moment visit for lunch with my mum.Very friendly service.Great menu with traditional classics that sadly seem missing in a lot of today's modern pubs. Difficult to choose what to have. It was a chilly day so I opted for the steak and kidney pudding with new pots and fresh veg. It was delicious but couldn't quite manage the large portion. Mum had gammon egg and chips which was also thoroughly enjoyed. All waiter service, no need to get up and down to the bar. Thoroughly recommend. We will be back soon.
