We went for a cream tea, which was nice. The surroundings in the glass entrance area was not of the standard you would expect. Windows not clean, damp showing through on some of the interior. Visible cobwebs. It could do with a makeover as the building has such a unique beauty it holds up well, but standards need to be kept.

My wife and I stayed at The Royal Hotel for four nights - dinner, bed and breakfast - in mid-October 2023. We had an excellent stay. Service, accommodation and food were all of a very high standard. The cuisine especially was very good. Two slight negatives. Firstly, we found our room very warm at night and so not always great for sleeping (and this, remember, was mid-October). Secondly, we thought we noticed a drop in the number of waiters in the dining room towards the end of the week and slower service as a result. Nevertheless, good value for money. We would be strongly inclined to return to The Royal in the event of another stay on the Isle of Wight.

We celebrated our golden wedding anniversary here on a four day break. Very good value with ferry crossing included. Also allowance towards evening meal. Our room was upgraded to a sea view which was lovely. Room was large with seating area. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom clean with beautiful toiletries. Large fluffy towels, robes and slippers. Food at breakfast varied and well presented. Dinner was equally good and beautifully presented. Staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful. We met 50 years ago on the beach in ventnor, it was lovely to come back and we really enjoyed our stay at the Royal.

We got married at The Royal and had a reception for 40 people. Everything was above our expectations: the food was exceptional; the staff were warm, welcome and helpful; the bar staff made delicious and varied cocktails; and our room was comfortable with stunning views. We had the perfect day and would not hesitate to recommend The Royal.

Beautiful setting with lovely sea view from the bedroom. The gardens are lush and breakfast outside on the lawn was lovely. The waiting staff were excellent and attentive and the quality of breakfast and choice was superb. We had great weather last week so it was perfect. Debbie was very helpful when I was booking the hotel and explained about the ferry prices and discount which was fab. Really enjoyable.

Stayed at this rather tired Hotel for three nights. The rooms are a bit of a throwback in time but nevertheless comfortable and ours had lovely views over the bay. Drinks on the Veranda served by attentive staff (at reasonable prices) was one of the highlights.Breakfast was okay if unimaginative (1 sausage,1 rasher of bacon,1 mushroom,1 half a tomato and a small very crispy slice of fried bread) Waiting staff on the whole were attentive and friendly. The evening meals consisted of very small portions at high prices in a restaurant that is in need of a revamp, consequently we only had dinner there once! The location is lovely however.

A lovely hotel, just a short stroll from the seafront. Staff here are excellent, so friendly, very genuine, really cannot do enough to help you and all have time to chat with you. It really is one of the best hotels for customer care. Food is very good and service in the restaurant is attentive and very smoothly run. The outside pool and sitting areas are plentiful and beautiful. This is a little gem in Ventnor and you will not be disappointed.

A fabulous hotel with a clean environment, friendly and efficient staff, and delicious breakfasts. Staying at the hotel made my experience on Isle of Wight wonderful. The hotel is located in walking distance of the beach, town, and bus transportation to other parts of the island.

Excellent Sunday lunch in the garden. Cannot be faulted. Perfect setting. Perfect service. Great food. Some of the best I have had in a very long time. Congratulations. Next time, we will come and stay the night.

We hired a private room to dine in for a family birthday 3 course lunch. The garden is beautiful, enjoyed lovely cocktails overlooking the pool and array of pretty plants. The service was excellent, we were well looked after and staff were very attentive. The hotel was very quick to respond in the booking stages and accommodate all dietary requirements. The food was very good, we would describe it as a fine dining experience, portions were small but of a good quality.Lovely view and small seating area if you walk up from the car park.

Overall:Fantastic service with delicious food and wine in a slightly tired hotel. Staff all very friendly and Stefan really knows his wines.Review of room with anex:Despite having an "annex" it's just a 'U' shaped room, with one toilet that is on the far side. Like the rest of the hotel, our room was a little tired but did us well enough. We brought a pop up cot but didn't need it, their own one was fine.Review of Se7en restaurant:Fantastic food, excellent wine pairings, brilliant service but it was £140/head and we all left feeling a bit hungry. My wife ordered a cheese sandwich from the bar immediately after.Review of The Geranium:Larger portions than Se7en, fewer courses, mostly the same excellent for. This the place to choose.Review of breakfast:Mostly good but with most basic, cheap bread imaginable. Smoked salmon, fresh fruit salad and ... Hovis sandwich bread. If the owner is reading this please consider bigger portions at Se7en and get some tasty bread for breakfast.

We had a voucher for an afternoon tea here. It was a lovely treat with delicious sandwiches, scones and beautiful little cakes. My favourite was the pineapple éclair. The staff were so friendly and pleasant. You are made to feel special.

Great afternoon tea with the family. The room was bright and comfortable overlooking the garden. The waitstaff were lovely and very helpful, and sandwiches, scones and canes were all delicious. One suggestion is more kid-friendly flavours for cakes in children’s afternoon tea. Having said that the staff were happy to accommodate our request for our 8 year old. Thank you for making our visit memorable. It’s our 4th visit and we’ll come again next year.

Had a wonderful 4 night stay, with breakfast, dinner and the ferry package. Fantastic location, with lovely garden and pool with loungers for relaxing. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, whom were so welcoming and friendly. I will be returning next summer, as I ran out of time to explore the whole island.Walkability: Rather a steep walk into Ventor Beach and town but worth the walk the views are amazing.Food & drinks: Fine dining in a hidden gem
