What a wonderful experience we had, finding about what veg are being cultivated for the year. How things are not wasted through being preserved. A perfect place to spend your anniversary.Dietary restrictions: Happy to change the menu depending on your requirements

Visited The Small Holding for Mother's Day lunch, and were absolutely blown away by the food and the service. The tasting menu approach is a great treat, and some of the things these guys pull off are incredible (the pumpkin sorbet was amazing). Very informative and friendly service, and child friendly. Would definitely recommend a visit for a special occasion

An incredibly well balanced tasting menu. When asked for favourites by the lovely staff, we all struggled to pick a highlight.Would be absolutely delighted to eat every single bite again.

A great intimate experience, great tasting food sourced as locally as possible and a seasonal menu that changes constantly, with some exciting flavours you won't find elsewhere. Served to you by an infectiously enthusiastic team. All round great experience.

A trip to The Small Holding is an adventure, an exciting experience and a huge treat! The food is always completely delicious, beautiful to look at and almost everything comes either directly from the farm there or from as close as possible. Sustainability and zero waste is really important to them. Even the ‘no-dig’ way they farm helps reduce greenhouse gas release. The best part of the experience is the staff - both front of house and the chefs who come to the table to explain all the details of the food and wines. They are so welcoming, knowledgeable and passionate. You can taste the love and hard work that goes into every dish!

We decided to treat ourselves to a midweek meal out. Our choice of venue was perfect as the new Head Chef James Chatfield was introducing his new and very exciting menu, and what a menu! We loved every course, all perfectly prepared and we just had the most amazing evening being looked after by Gabby, Front of House trust us on a grey evening Gabby brings sunshine to your table. We came away thoroughly spoiled and would highly recommend that you ensure you get a reservation soon before the word gets out because if was a truly lovely special meal. Thank you to everyone at The Small Holding for an amazing evening during a grey and miserable week of weather.

It is rare in this world to find a true gem in the midst of all the mundane - but if you chose to go to Cranbrook you will have found one. From the moment you enter, the atmosphere is inviting. The front of house are friendly, efficient, and demonstrate a genuine desire to engage and please their customers (isn't that a novel idea in 2024!). Every dish served is explained in detail, how & where the ingredients are sourced, and questions answered about where the notion for the dish came from. Its even possible to engage and have some friendly banter with both the Chef's & the waiters/waitresses (another novel and increasingly unique idea in 2024!). Each course can come with a wine specifically chosen to match the dish by in-house sommelier's. Without doubt I would wholeheartedly recommend The Small Holding.

Four or eight course set menu that is good enough to put aside the substantial reservation payment to get it. Many novel dishes, perhaps inspired by the kitchen garden outside. Attentive service.

The attention to detail is outstanding. Every part of the experience from the tour of the small holding, the knowledgable staff, exquisite and beautifully prepared courses to the ambience was just joyful. We even had our family name printed & on the table. It's the little touches. We were down visiting my son & fiancé over the festive period and this was an extra Christmas present. My husband doesn't eat meat so Decembers menu was perfect & why my son wanted to take us.The 2 brothers who own this restaurant are living the dream. Everything I love. Nature, living off the land, sustainability, supporting small businesses and rustic. We absolutely loved it.

Just go here, you will not be disappointed. 7 of us dined here. The staff were welcoming and very good, explaining the sources of food and the ethos of the restaurant. While there were things on the menu I would not normally eat, I intended to try it anyway. And the food was excellent, as good as any Michelin starred restaurant I have eaten in. The chocolate ice cream with mushroom was unbelievable. The sommelier particularly was excellent. She was funny, engaging and did the perfect job of picking the wines and explaining them. Every pairing was interesting and matched well. Just get a booking and go!
