Possibly the friendliest pub I’ve ever been in. Wish it was my local!

Our spot next to home is usually "The Weatsheaf" pub in Bough Beach. Yesterday we decided to have a little walk before having our usual Sunday drink. After half an hour through our lovely Eden valley we ended up here at "The Castle"...The last few times we came to Chiddingstone this pub was sadly closed, so we took the opportunity to stop and try it ?.Great we did! as I had the best ever pint of local cider ? in the whole world, not exaggerating, I travelled a lot. This strong (7.5) cider is made locally by an old man. I even bought 2 bottles for a treat at home...Very friendly but busy young staff, We will definitely come back here for a roast! But at a less busy time. Then we went back to the Weatsheaf and had a second drink there... ?. As lovely as ever ?Great Sunday as you can see ?

Absolute gem of a local pub. 600 years old and bags of character. They do a cracking Sunday lunch which is highly recommended. The food was great and the service was so friendly. One of the most friendly pubs I can ever remember.Definitely will be coming back here again.

Visited today and loved it. The food was really excellent, the fish and chips was perfect with a thin and crispy batter, and we also tried the chicken pie which was also lovely. On top of this, we felt the service was really warm, genuine and friendly. We were on a country hike on a day trip from London and would do the hike again just to come to this pub for lunch ?

We arrived shortly after food had stopped being served but they pulled out all the stops and managed to find something for us all. Both myself and my other half were so thankful. The food was delightful and they were warm, welcoming and helpful. Whole heartedly recommend without hesitation.

I hadn’t been here before, but I will certainly be back. My elderly mother, wife and I had lunch. The menu has typical pub dishes, but what elevates the food is the quality of the ingredients and the cooking - for example, the chips are triple-cooked and the beef and ale pie was very well filled (probably the best pie I have eaten in a pub). The building is beautiful and steeped in history. All of the above would have been sufficient to have made this a most enjoyable lunch out. But what turned it into a very special occasion was the lovely people who run the pub - they could not have been friendlier, more charming or kinder, especially to my mother.

Never a dull moment in The Castle! These guys have nailed it, the friendly welcoming, warm & friendly country village pub!Busy pub with staff who must be telepathically connected as nobody waits for drinks or help.Food is proper home cooked and we could not fault it, wine was lovely and well priced.Serious fun with the locals, the people passing through and the staff are just brilliant at keeping the interaction going.Amazing time. Thank you!!
