We found this little gem via Search for Sites when looking for somewhere to stay over night in our camper. We chose the Spotted Dog because the reviews were all excellent AND they had outside toilets you are welcome to use over night, if you eat with them.We did and I appreciated the wine list, you could tell a wine lover had put that together. Food was good, we sat by an open fire and chatted to most people in there. Dog friendly too!The owner is putting his heart into the place, that’s clear. We need to celebrate this type of landlord when old traditional pubs are a dying trade these days. Well done. We’ll be back for sure!Parking: Allow campers overnight if you eat with them.

Visited on a Saturday lunch.Food (burger and goat curry) took over 1.1/2 hours! We weren’t the only table waiting ages.Food was tasty but items were missing and when I asked was advised the kitchen had run out.Staff were very accommodating and moved us to the restaurant as the bar area was cold. Everyone had kept their coats on!The place needs a good dust too.On balance we won’t return for food.

We booked on Saturday night last moment and were lucky enough to get what must have been the last table .. The spotted dog has a firm place in my heart as it is the place that my dad took my mum on their first date in 1958. Dad died in 1979 far too young it mum only died last year .. anyway. The roast was delicious. Went with my two adult daughters. Who had the adult roast beef and I had the child’s lamb. The fact that this was accepted with out a murmur is high in my list. I have had a recent op and cannot manage large meals. - and many places baulk at an adult ordering a ‘child portion’ which of course I understand as the price per cover especially in a Sunday is important and I would never do this if we were just a couple because it’s a substantial loss on the cover. - but felt it was acceptable with 2 adult meals as well. They were incredibly busy .. but we didn’t have to wait long for our food. Daughter had a starter (which we all tasted - the pate - and declared v tasty .. and then the main event arrived . My lamb melted in the mouth . Superb roasties , crisp in the outside but proper potaoey in the inside - not super fluffy like the frozen nonsense.. lovely mash under the lamb and perfectly cooked veg. The Yorkie was absolutely perfect . Crispy and soggy in all the right places ?.. We finished off with a glorious sticky toffee pudding and rum raisin ice cream desert and three spoons simply because we wanted something sweet but couldn’t manage much more . The Spotted dog staff are attentive without being intrusive and are quite frankly amazing for running such an amazing lunch in what is quite a tight space - thanks to 14th century room design. !

Best burger I've had in a restaurant in a long while and it's very cosy sitting by the fire. They have a good range of main courses but the dessert menu could use a couple more options

We came here on the off-chance, as we had intended to visit the Henry 8th in Edenbridge but it's closed for maintenance. Being both resourceful and hungry, we had a Google and spotted the, um Spotted Dog. We're so glad we did - Claire on the bar was friendly and welcoming from the get go and we were seated quickly. The food was excellent and came within a decent amount of time, particularly impressive since it was fairly busy and Claire was the only front of house member of staff. We recommend the steak burgers really tasty, and the whitebait as a starter was delicious. The surroundings are beautiful, both inside and out. We will definitely be returning.

I had a fabulous goat masala in Kashmiri sauce, have rarely eaten anything so delicious.

Typical English PUB to eat, beautiful and very good atmosphere.

I am extremely concerned. There was four of us and we ordered two fish and chips which were gone off- smelt and tasted horrible. We also had the burger which was dry and not nice and this wasn't eaten. I had maccoroni cheese and it was just watery milk with melted cheese on top- fries weren't cooked through either. The service was sporadic, the waitress who was serving us was dropping chips and slurring speech, the manager offered us 50% off bill but honestly I don't feel like it compensated fully for our bad experience.

Second time now. Another perfect service. Booked a few months back for mums birthday and requested a table next to the fire. Was all setup and ready for us. Pie night this evening, fantastic home cooking, staff so welcoming. If you want the full Kent pub experience, I fully recommend.

Visited this lovely rural pub last Saturday. Warm greeting and offered a table promptly by a friendly gentleman doing a great job serving the whole pub pretty much solo. We were cold by the door and were moved to a warmer table near a radiator. Great service. This is where things went downhill. We ordered promptly and patiently waited with our drinks. After 40 minutes we were advised one of our sides was unavailable, we swapped without fuss, however we were very surprised at the time it took to advise us of this. After chasing twice, our food came out after a delay of nearly 90 minutes. Had it been 3 minutes longer we would have left as we had other places to be. Regrettably, my wife didn’t receive the fries she had ordered and her burger turned up without the advertised gherkins or onion rings. My main had no chutney as promised. It turns out these items were unavailable but by this stage we just needed to eat and be gone. The food that we did get was excellent and well prepared which just about saved the day. We are very keen to support local pubs in these tough times, but regrettably the huge delay in being served coupled with 4 missing / incorrect items means we would be unlikely to return. Many thanks to the serving staff who worked very hard in difficult circumstances

Had a really nice Sunday dinner here, the portion size was just right. The building itself is gorgeous, with exposed beams and a real homely feel.

Visited for a Sunday roast with family. Staff were friendly and attentive. The roast was, at best, average. The beef and lamb were acceptable but two roast potatoes and a tiny dish of vegetables for three people. If you are going to scrimp on other areas of the meal, at least provide a decent amount of frozen veg! Disappointed and will not be returning.
