This excellent restaurant still has a pub vibe and great beer. However, the food is the standout. An excellent chef works wonders, the food, in my opinion, is better than a 2* establishment we went to recently and much better value. Excellent that the White Swan has a small area where you can sit with your dog. Shame we live over 2hrs away otherwise we would be here way more often.Totally recommend.

There is ample parking for a start. The menu is always outstanding with great thought put into the creation of every dish. The different flavours just keep popping in your mouth. Love it!

This place had been recommended and we decided to book in at The Fence Gate (just a mile down the road) for an overnight stay.A wet Wednesday night and the restaurant was full!Unlike most fine dining, this gastropub has several beer taps on the bar. I had a Tomothy Taylor and my darlin’ a Prosecco. The menu was fixed and what you might call a tasting menu with six courses (seven with the optional cheese board.)A bottle of Malbec ordered and then we’re off:Aged Comté & walnut croustade.Powerful, intense, delicious amuse bouche.Homemade bread with whipped butter and paté covered in foi gras shavings.Again, delicious.Beetroot ice cream with coconut, curry and coriander.Again, intense flavours. Who’d have thought you could have teased so much flavour from beetroot?Steak tartare with cucumber, egg yolk, dill and horseradish. This worked really well with the Malbec.Herb fed chicken with asparagus, morels, light and dark Périgord truffle sauces. The flavours were divine. This was also served with BIG chips, probably and inch and a half diameter! The flavours were divine. To the first of the puddings:Rhubarb and blood orange panna cotte. It had a sprinkle of baby basil leaves! My darlin’ says this one of the best puddings she’s ever had! Then:Passe crassane pear with tarragon, honey and single estate olive. This was a perfect lead in to the cheese board. However, we didn’t partake in the cheeses, we were full! The flavours of the full meal left us sated. We chatted with the staff who were all fairly young and well informed. This is a comfortable gastropub with excellent food and in no doubt, we shall return bar any disaster.

Excellent food in a cosy place with a local pub, laid back atmosphere. Impeccable service and friendly staff. Most highly recommended.Parking: Loads of free parking about thirty seconds walk from the front door.

Went there last week for the first time and it was one of the best meals I have ever had. You need to go with an open mind and try things that you don't necessarily like the sound of; it could easily change your mind. The food is good value; the wine is pricey. The place itself is so unpretentious so there is a lovely down to earth atmosphere in which to eat. I hope to be back!

Don’t get to eat here as often as we’d like as we aren’t local, but it is always worth a journey or a night away near by to visit. It’s a rare type of place where you can enjoy the most outstanding Michelin food, with great service, yet it still feels laid back and informal. Staff are knowledgeable about dishes served and their cheeseboard is outstanding! Still remember the tomato dish (light and banging with fresh summery flavours) and the soufflé I had for dessert on my first visit years ago which is always a good sign! We need more little places like this on the food map, it’s a gem
