What an amazing place!! In such a picture perfect village. We visited to celebrate my Husband's birthday & were not disappointed! We stayed in Mr Fox for 1 night. It is beautifully furnished, with a mezzanine level which proudly boars a roll top bath. The bathroom is stunning too & all spotlessly clean. The complimentary carrot cakes were a lovely touch. Before our 3 course Sunday lunch, we had a drink at the bar.I started with chicken liver parfait & it was delicious. For the main event I went for the pork belly & it literally melted in my mouth. Best roasties & gravy EVER!! The stuffed Yorkshire is totally another level!!We shared a cheese board to finish which was just right to end a perfect Sunday lunch. The service was perfect too.Breakfast at The Freemasons was something else!We had ordered our food the night before, not realising that we would be treated to a feast of army breakfast treats before our cooked breakfast! For me this was a true rival to Northcote!!We will be returning very soon!!Thank you to The Freemasons at Wiswell for making our experience a fabulous one!Vicki & Matt

The Celebration of Spring menu is a triumph! The soup starter is somehow rich but not heavy, the freshness of the pea and the subtle cheese foam bringing one another into sharp focus. Lamb pudding and rhubarb custard dessert also excellent. Very good service and tasteful decor. I cannot wait to return.

Went here for dinner and the food didn't disappoint! It was lovely. We had brioche bread which was delicious. I had soup as a starter which was really nice and the venison as a main. It was in a suet pudding style and was lovely and rich ?. The chocolate pudding was excellent too. Very reasonably priced and nice welcoming atmosphere. Will definitely be back. Unfortunately only took 1 photo as we were too busy enjoying the food.

The best meals we've had for a long time. We're getting fed up with tasting menus, and they offer a very good normal three course menu as well. Excellent.

Why does this not have a Michelin star?! Best food we have had in years. Better than a number of restaurants with stars we have eaten at in the last couple of years.Food exceptional, staff friendly and knowledgeable ambience lovely.Generous portions for such establishments, with additional snacks. Struggled to decide our favourite dish as always were off such high quality and so so tasty.Rooms were gorgeous. Spacious and so tastefully decorated.Perfect in all senses - great break at a very good price.Michelin - give them the star they deserve!

Food was beautifully presented and tasted fabulous . Staff friendly, polite, and attentive.Didn't know the area so parking was found difficult. So maybe ask on booking your meal .

Christmas present meal and we opted for the tasting menu.Absolutely superb. Every course a winner. Service was pleasant, maybe lacked a clear senior person leading the small junior team, but they did a good job.But the food, depth of taste at every stage. Creative but not over the top.For me it was better than many of the higher profile places in Cumbria. We'll be back.

Superb luxury microbreak with the ‘Beat the Winter Blues’ package. Food from the 7 course Signature Menu was amazing, seasonal, local, imaginative and delicious. 3 great real beers available. Real fires welcome on a freezing day. The breakfast also deserves a review of its own, pastries, porridge, granola and the fullest of Full Englishes.Even a decent coffee. The room was lovely, swanky yet cosy, and a top notch bathroom. The staff were all really friendly and helpful . Felt like we were pushing the boat out when we booked but ended up feeling like brilliant value for money. So much brilliant food. Thank you Freemasons, we had a lovely time and will be backFood & drinks: Really wonderful food on the evening menu ( Scallops! Guinea fowl!)and one of the all time great breakfasts. Creamed haggis anyone? On the drinks:A good wine list and a selection of really well kept real ales.

Not great considering the price...no English mustard or horseradish available even though it was Sunday
