First time in this pub and all seems decent. The beer garden is on the canal with great views in the background. Cant comment on dood as i didn't eat. Almoat £5 a pint is kind of standard

Huge queue out of the bar, not sure if this is typical or not. Really nice soup,a bit disappointed with the main course, a veggie burger, as it was a bit dry. Needs to be served with some sort of dressing/relish

Booked here for a large party of 30+ Sunday 19th12 girls celebrating their football team and parents. From my initial phone call with owners who were so helpful with the booking from start to finish. They even kept me updated as to whether they'd be able to have inflatables on the beer garden depending on the weather otherwise they'd reserve our space inside. Helen, the owner said they can get a bouncy castle/inflatble without any extra charge & obviously that would be available for the any kids visiting the pub which I was happy about as you can't stop kids from joining in with the fun!Helen also sent me a photo of where she'd reserved us some benches as they don't usually reserve outside space, her photo showed two inflatables so I was made up!When we got there there was a 3rd bouncy castle next to all the others so we thought nothing of it & all the kids jumped on!About an hour into us being there the kids mentioned a lady had been over to say they all need to get off as she had paid for it. This was then mentioned a 2nd time by the kids & then we seen the lady speaking to them but she never came over to mention to any one of the adults in our party, nevertheless we told them to not go on it as after seeing Helens initial photo then we realised this mustn't be for the whole pubs use!A little while later Paul the owner came over to us to explain that another party was there and they had declined using the inflatables the pub had offered and ordered their own but the company delivering just put it with the rest of them. The other party then deflated the bouncy castle themselves and moved it across the beer garden right next to the canal where they wanted it!! The staff went above and beyond to carry on trying to serve while this party seemed to be taking up a lot of the staffs time trying to make this right for them! Unfortunately there is no pleasing some people & they should have taken this issue up with their bouncy castle company and not the poor staff on such busy day!!Fortunately for us the day was amazing and the beer garden sits along the canal which is gorgeous, we all ordered food at different times but all arrived in reasonable time and were lovely. We all said how fab it was and that we needed to make it our regular meet up!Thanks Helen & Paul we'll see u again soon!Kid-friendliness: Good choice of food for the kids and amazing that they can fit bouncy castles/inflatables in the beer garden to keep the kids happy for hours!! ?

Got to say, I'm here today and what a fantastic view and outside area, beautiful weather for the occasion.1st issue. So, there was a christening going on whilst we were there, there was some arguments over their bouncy castle being set up in the main section of the garden rather than where their function was happening. There was another party happening with loads of bigger kids jumping and climbing all over theirs whilst they had little kids trying to play on it, getting knocked out of the way and some of the bigger kids kept turning it off and jumping on it. After about half an hour they eventually moved it for them but the female owner seemed like she was looking for a fight, sounded aggressive and you could hear her arguing with the girl who was stressed and clearly upset, near to tears.Afterwards you could hear the owner complaining down her phone and clearly angry that her day has been ruined being called in.Her husband/partner also owner was lovely, he was really pleasant and clearly making and effort to sort it out and genuinely lovely with the other customer and spoke to myself.2nd issue.Only draft beer available was carlsberg or a variation of coors light, everything else was off. Draft soft drinks also off or flat as they couldn't get the gas to work. When we arrived there was at least 12 people queuing up for the bar with only 1 girl serving, after about 10 minutes another jumped on which helped, but only when you get to the bar are you being told about the drinks issues. As I was leaving, they've told everyone that they've now completely ran out of beer. Everything is now off at the bar except for bottles which is Newcastle brown. For a day like today, amazing weather, going here is beautiful but there's no drinks available which is such a shame.Had some food and it was brilliant, there was also a guy working in and out with a beard and going bald on top, he was fantastic.

The food is nice but didn't have some bits from the menu available. (Fries & Chicken)Lots of drinks on draft unavailable, including coke as the gas had gone. Was told they'd have a delivery at midday but this didn't seem to happen. However this may not have been the pubs fault to be fair.Beautiful surroundings, interior and exterior is stunning.Wheelchair accessibility great.Parking fine.In relation to the previous review I am the lady who hired her own bouncy castle and it was for my daughter's christening. I had spoken with the owners Helen and Paul on the Monday regarding my daughter's christening on the Sunday. I was buying buffet food at £11/12 a head for 30, I also had children attending all around ages 1-4. I was advised we'd have our own area in the pub/garden sectioned off which was lovely and a space I could put my own bouncy castle as the pub also hire a couple for customers. Given the children attending the christening being so young I thought it best I hire my own. Helen advised me a family had done the same the week prior. I decided to use the same company the pub used for their castles to save any confusion and as I thought they'd be less likely to let me down if also delivering the pubs castles. When I arrived at the pub the castle I had hired had been put up not where we were meant to sit but across the other side of the pub. There were lots of older children on it, a football team age 11+. I obviously wanted it next to were I'd hired because the children in our party where much younger. The ones who were 11+ where literally climbing on the roof of the castle making it dangerous for the little ones and turning the castle off and on again. I spoke with a table of adults who where with the football team and asked that they didn't climb on the roof and explained id hired it privately for the little ones to use and didnt want one of them to end up hurt. Who appeared to be their football coach asked the older children not to climb on the roof. I spoke only to one staff member, Matt, and explained the issue. Id paid £100 for the castle. People were also in the area we'd been told would be reserved for the christening Party but this was quickly resolved.Myself and Matt went outside and the older children where again on the roof of the castle causing it to go down ontop of my 3year old daughter. I asked Matt if my family could move it to where it was meant to be, he told me I'd have to ask the owners (Helen and Paul) who wasn't there or the castle company would need to move it. During this conversation I received a text from the Helen saying they where on their way and didn't appreciate the way her staff was being spoken which I found odd as I'd only spoken to one staff member and he was fine and stood in front of me at the time. I showed him the message and he too was confused.I tried ringing the castle company but they said the staff at the pub had told them where to put it but the staff denied this saying it'd just been dumped and they wasn't aware.Paul the owner came, he had no issues with my family moving the castle to where was agreed and helped my family move the castle. The rest of the day was fine.I did ask for a tray of chips and some garlic bread and when I went to pay that was an additional £35 which I thought was steap and questioned it, Matt then said he'd put it through wrong and it was £25.As I say the food and pub itself was lovely, the castle issue was clearly just a mistake/communication error. But if I've paid £100 to hire it for my daughter's christening and she's unable to use it due to older kids climbing on top of it then obviously I have to raise this issue and look to resolve it. I appreciate the pub was busy but I was asking that my family move it to where it was meant to be (by our reserved seating area/buffet) so we could try to enjoy the rest of my daughter's day. The whole event was costing a lot of money so I'm sorry the previous lady didn't think I should trouble

We really did enjoy our lunch. We had Prawn sandwiches and the prawns were delicious and so many of them. And home made Sweet potato and coconut soup I would really recommend it . The service was excellent. And such a lovely setting right by the Canal.

I've been visiting the Ship for many years now but the present owners are the best! So friendly, amusing and attentive. They have improved the decor too and it's looking good, inside and out. We had lunch and the food was freshly made, exactly as we'd asked for and reasonably priced. It was quiet today (Thursday lunchtime) but I'm sure, that as the weather improves, this pub will be very popular with walkers (a lovely canal walk) and other visitors wanting good food and drink, great hosts and a beautiful setting.

Called in for lunch. Food very average. Service was unfriendly from someone who would benefit from some customer service training. "What yous havin'?" Very unwelcoming.Moved off a wobbly table to one slightly less wobbly and had to put my coat back on as pub was freezing.Couple on a neighbouring table seemed to have the same experience so not just us!

Popped in today without booking a table. Despite being busy they got us a table inside straight away with a lovely view of the canal. Ordered food from the specials menu. Lovely home cooked food arrived promptly and was very tasty. Staff very attentive checking everything was okay.
