Lovely cosy country pub that serves a wide variety of meals, something to suit everyone. The owners are really welcoming & service is very efficient without being intrusive. Great friendly atmosphere, free parking & good value & generous portions . Well worth a visit .

The little village location is wonderful. The old worn decor not too offensive. The 1970 toilets bearable However. The very reason one goes to restaurants is to have great tasting reasonably priced food that is presented well and leaves a great impression and you want to return. Unfortunately this venue fails on all counts which is a pity. Not an enjoyable meal. However I believe they do a great Sunday lunch. But so do other venues.

Lovely old fashioned pub and staff very friendly but food doesn't taste like home cooked food or maybe reheated. Chips standard cheap and greasy. Desserts seemed bought in. I pay lower prices at local gastro pubs where everything is freshly made and cooked. Only 3 other tables occupied yet 'reserved' was on every table lol. Shame as it could be a little gold mine as in a beautiful area!

Fabulous pub. Great staff, beer and clientele.

Nice atmosphere, cozy little pub.The food completely lets it down.Don't know for certain but some of the meals definitely seemed frozen and microwaved. The quality and taste overall was just basic pub grub with bistro prices.None of us enjoyed our food. Not impressed at all. Can't fault the service or front of house though.Won't be returning again for food.

Picture postcard village location. Locals and visitors, some from USA, when I popped in on a bike ride for a half. Landlord happy to chat. He showed the Americans some antique police handcuffs!

First time me and the wife visited hereWhat a lovely old traditional pub with great members of staff, the roast dinner was the best we’ve had in a long time. Something your nan would knock up on a Sunday for the familyAnd having homemade bread and butter pudding when do you see this on a menu5 stars from the Jordan’s

Overly priced with the atmosphere of an Ankh Morpork river. £5 for a larger shandy, £7 for for a pint of coke and a pint of lemonade. Was going to eat but at these bar prices I wasn’t going to line the pockets of the owners. Shan’t be returning.

Walked to this pub two weeks in a row and on both occasions the place looked closed despite website and google saying it should be open. We had been looking forward to a pint and lunch in the beer garden but we were sadly denied on both occasions.

Second time we tried to visit this pub after a country walk. Depite website and google saying it is open from 12pm we have found it closed with no signs of life around 12. 30 on both occasions. I don't think we will bother trying again. We didnt mind sharing our custom with the lovely ladies at the village coffee shop tucked around the corner in the Village Hall. Seems a very poor show and a great shame as it looks like it could be a lovley pub. I have read that other people have had similar experiences. If you can't be bothered opening at 12 then it would make more sense to advertise the times you wish to be open.

Fantastic Sunday lunch, staff very professional and food was 7 stars already booked for next week Better than a home cooked dinner

Second time we tried to visit this pub with a group of friends. The website says it is open at 12 but on both occasions we arrived just after to find no signs of life around the place and car park cordoned off. Management need to sort out either the advertising or get the place open when it is supposed to be. After two attempts for lunch we will NOT be trying again. Thankfully had excellent service from the Village Coffee Shop situated across the road.

First time in a long time we've come back here as it wasn't great 7 years ago. So with a view to trying it again we had booked for a family birthday meal last week. On entering it was clear there had been little to no improvement to the decor since we were last here - my seat had a well ground in large stain on the fabric. Our 'welcome' by the staff member was underwhelming - nothing warm and friendly. The glasses provided for our wine, well 2 of them needed running through the dishwasher again. The toilets and the gents specifically were like something from the 1960s and not particularly clean, made worse by the noticeable rust and peeling paint on the floor, from the radiator. As to the food and with no doubt in my mind whatsoever at £18.95 - this was THE worst fish pie i've ever had. I had 5 pieces of fish in this - all diminutive in size and no salmon whatsoever despite this dish being described on the menu as having such. The mash was truly awful, akin to something from a microwave packet. As for the 'buttered peas' - no sign of any butter on them, instead they were dry and tasteless. The whole presentation of the dish was like something from the 1980s. When you consider how beautiful Thornton Hough is as a village, it should really have a pub which properly reflects its surroundings and not somewhere that is less than average in terms of its food offering, decor, toilet facilities and hospitality. It could and should, be so so much better......
