A very wet day following New Years Day and we booked online for lunch earlier in the day. Busy and several family groups with children. Friendly and capable staff, attractive menu with a fishy emphasis. We had a ‘specials’ fillet steak tartare and rare tuna to start. Followed by the fish stew and mussels with French fries. All very good. Not so impressed with the puddings but perhaps that was me having celebrated too much with desserts on New Years Day. Good value for good food, well presented.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Norfolk -- superb food, gorgeous views, and helpful and friendly staff. The menu is innovative and draws on local fish and meat (we had excellent battered haddock and fish stew). Very dog friendly. Reservations are essential, as there can be a long wait for tables. Kudos to Tom Butler and the front of house staff who make this such an enjoyable meal every time.

Food excellent and varied. We had lunch here twice over consecutive days and the menu changed. Brilliant pork belly starter, and another which was red onion, anchovy on sourdough toast. Service was very friendly and efficient despite the place always being packed. Overall just a really great experience

We visited the Dun Cow at Salthouse whilst staying in the area at New Year. There was a waiting list for tables as we hadn't booked but the staff were friendly and we had drinks in the bar area whilst we waited. Food was very tasty and well presented we both had the Pan Fried Skate wing.

Visited thursford to watch the Christmas show and stayed at holly lodge shepherd hut (stunning!) and their super helpful guide mentioned here as a place to visit for dinner so we booked. Fantastically friendly staff who were really considerate about offering a quieter area as there was a large family already dinning so it was lively but we enjoyed listening to the banter and loved the decor and the perfect wood fire going. Food was unique and clearly locally sourced - I loved my fish stew and it was so reasonably priced we did consider returning a second night but persuaded ourselves to explore in the opposite direction as we were only there for the weekend. Congrats on the refurb as it looks amazing and certainly value for money

Atmospheric, cosy spot for dinner. Just off the road, lovely views. Good food with varied menu. Pleasant service. Well worth a visit.

We visited this establishment for lunch as we had been several times in years gone by. Oh dear! What a change. I know times are hard but the portion sizes of two of the main courses were miserly. Pork steak with new pots and veg turned out to be one potatoe and a tiny amount of unrecognisable veg hidden under a small piece of meat. We were all still hungry declining a dessert as those would no doubt have been minute too! Two glasses of wine £17 and a pint of lager £6. No sadly we'll leave it now to the weekenders from elsewhere for whom this pub is surely catering

My husband, miniature schnauzer and I visited the Dunn Cow on the last day of our very recent holiday in Norfolk. We arrived early, 11.45 am and we’re greeted with a very warm welcome. All the staff seemed so friendly, chatty and very upbeat, which I always think creates an instant great impression of how the team works together. It was a Saturday and we could not believe how fast the place filled up. When we arrived, there was only one customer at the bar, but literally within 20 minutes the place was absolutely packed out. It was a really busy, buzzing atmosphere which we very much enjoyed. Service with a big smile was a joy and everyone was really lovely and attentive (not just to us, but to our dog too, which means a lot to us). The menu was very varied and offered some fantastic choices. My husband ordered the lamb burger with blue cheese and fries, I had something from the specials board, coriander marinated pork chop with udon noodles and a wasabi style dressing. My meal was truly delicious and it was a really substantial portion. The pork was melt in the moth and the noodles had subtle hints of chilli, mint and lots of very tasty mushrooms.I was very happy indeed. My husband was just a wee bit disappointed with the portion size of the burger and chips, it was a small burger on quite a small roll and a very small service of the fries. He said he had no complaints what so ever with the flavour, it was very nice indeed, but he was not completely full from the meal. At £19 he felt the size of the burger and fries was quite over priced. Having said all that, it would not stop us returning, my husband would simply opt for something a bit more substantial.

A friendly welcome, a roaring fire, great food (haddock and chips). Just a lovely experience. Highly recommend this pub, thank you.

Catch up with an old mate for lunch. We were hunting mussels as season just started as season just began. We shared a bottle of Picpoul which was perfect with the Crustacea. Everything was SO good. Staff amazing , food and wine lush, and ambiance perfect. Last time I was here was for a group Friday meal before my wedding in 2014 which was excellent and delighted to see gold standard hospitality persists. Thank you team.

What a find, such fabulous place with the most amazing menu and food. Tapas style dishes mean you can have a great selection of fresh food. We found the Dun Cow half way through our weeks holiday in North Norfolk and went back for lunch the next day....It was so good, lovely staff and doggy friendly too!! Can't fault it Recommendations: Beef Tartar, Rare Tempura Tuna, Mussels Fried Crab

The Dun Cow has been a favourite of mine for years when visiting Norfolk. Our visit this evening was no disappointment, the service was attentive and friendly as always, I never feel we're not welcome with our 2 young children. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. My only small comment would be I'd have loved to see the fire on as this is how I always imagine it from when we've been before but it wasn't cold and we will 100% be back.

This is a "salt of the earth" pub, quite aposite in Salthouse. Very good, honest pub food at a reasonble price, plus friendly service. Relaxing ambience in a classic old pub, nice views out at the legendary salt marshes....a gem. Give yourself a treat, folks and book a table.
