It is such a shame that this once vibrant and welcoming charming village pub has been allowed to become run down . Opening when it pleases , sometimes not at all . We have known this pub for many years and it is heart breaking to see it barely trading as a pub . One wonders what the owners will do with it next . We stayed locally recently and in the whole week we were there it was open once , Thursday night 6pm-8pm . Really feel sorry for the locals , who always supported the pub , and for the many tourists who will be very disappointed when they arrive and find the doors shut . We even tried to contact the owners to ask when they would be open but they couldn't even answer . If you want a decent , traditional pub in the area try Royal Oak at Hornby .

We have been staying in the village and have spent the last 3 evenings having a quiet drink in this pub .....really friendly owners.....exceptionally dog friendly ( water and treats for our little dog).....lovely ambience....Great music playlist....we also had a nice meal on the Saturday night...nothing fancy, scampi chips and peas...but hot and tasty.... there was nothing veggie on the menu....but they were more than happy to make my partner a veggie meal .....the log burner in the corner made it toasty warm and welcoming....would recommend to anyone

Had a steak and black pudding pie which was just oozing class. Honestly a great pub. The bar man also had a mohawk which was sublime

Cosy and very nicely decorated and a good beer garden. We didn't eat there but it was a very welcoming and pleasant experience for a couple of drinks when out for a late Sunday walk.

Staying in the village & went for a meal on the Wednesday evening. Our dog was made most welcome with a bowl of water & a bowl of dog biscuits. The staff were extremely friendly & helpful. I had an unusual starter of Morecambe Bay shrimps on a crumpet, most unusual but delicious. This was followed by by the thickest, most moist sea bass ever served with new potatoes & green vegetables followed by a homemade mint chocolate mousse which was light & delicious. My husband had chicken wings & fish & chips which was really good. Will definitely return if in the area again.

Very good service and polite/efficient staff but food was average. Mackeral pate as starter was probably the best as scampi and lasagne seemed a bit tasteless. I suppose when you see mushroom risotto as the only vegetarian dish on the main menu it tells you something. However, the warmth of the staff and fire ? stove with good local beer made for a convivial evening.
Had great time great meal and drink. Very friendly staff. A few of us went there and tried a few dishes and they were all fantastic especially the fish pie. The staff told us about the area and suggested were to go. They recommended really good places. One of the places is the Greta Wood and river which we found interesting when we went for a walk the following day. Last you have to book if you want to enjoy a good meal drink and time. We have booked and we would find place if we hadn't

AMAZING! Hands down the best meal we had in the Lake District. More than happy to adapt dishes for intolerances. Very well priced, lovely atomosphere. Will be returning.

Called in our way past as we were hungry and looking for something to eat on our journey home from Richmond via Hawes and Ingleton to Wigan.Very friendly and attentive staff and good food too. We'd only found it due to a sign on the main road as its a little out of the way pleased we did. Enjoyed it and would go again if we're in the area.

We have a cottage in the village and regularly eat and drink at The Punch Bowl. Be careful: there are several Punch Bowls in the area - make sure you visit this one - in Burton-in-Lonsdale! So many village pubs have closed for ever. The village and its visitors are extremely fortunate that Mick and Heather bought the pub after it had been closed by the brewery. They and their staff are always welcoming, the service is excellent, the beer is well kept, and the food is unpretentious, but delicious.
