Everything about this place is perfect.Friendly professional welcome, attentive staff, gorgeous food. A busy restaurant with a lovely atmosphere, a pleasure to visit for the first time. Will definitely return.I visited here on a recommendation with a friend and her toddler to celebrate my birthday, nothing was too much trouble.

Just spent an absolutely delightful evening at the Durham Ox. The bar, a great place to sit and have a drink (what better than a gin and tonic with The Durham Ox Dry Gin). The food was delicious a Chateaubriand for 2 cooked to perfection, likewise a ribeye steak with the winter superfood salad. I had the Ox seafood platter a real treat. The staff were delightful.

Great pork chop and lovely traditional interiors. There is quite a pretentious air to the place but the food is high quality!

Highly recommended. A country pub which got some outstanding food on their menu, all locally sourced. There are nice veggie options too.

Excellent ambience from the onset. Lovely village gastro pub with accommodation. This time was a special treat so we stayed in the new Villa lodge with a hot tub for the ‘Sunday supper club’ We had a Fabulous lunch and absolutely excellent evening meal, every meal coming out of the kitchen looked amazing and very well presented, they were very busy so well done chefs… ???? All Staff were very friendly and on the ball cleaning tables etc as soon as people had left them. All in all a great special night away.

We spent two nights there. The atmosphere in the village is lovely! It’s close to Sutton Bank, quite worth a visit. The staff there are friendly!Just the food portion is good but taste is average and not worth the price. I have stayed in other inns or pubs in Yorkshire that have much much better food than this. Also the radiator was very noisy during first night for many hours. They sort it out the next day.

Fantastic food in an historic pub with a great reputation across Yorkshire. The staff are very efficient and friendly with very quick service. The food tasted amazing. We had the lamb, scallops, fish and chips and the sticky belly pork...all was so tasty. Nice range of drinks too from cocktails to local Black Sheep and Helmsley brewed ales. If you are in the area, book yourself a lunch here, you won't regret it!There is a pet friendly cabin too with full bar facilities.Parking: Free parking on site at the rear of the pub.Wheelchair accessibility: Fully wheelchair access.

Visit for Grandsons birthday. Starters of Prawn Cocktail, Squid and Soup enjoyable. The Main meals quite poor. The 3 Steaks were tough and overcooked and took 3 attempts for the bernaise sauce to arrive but the highlight was the fish ordered by my Daughter. When it came the batter was black and burnt. Quality control should never have let it out out of the kitchen. On complaint it was replaced with on exactly the same. By then we other 3 had finished our meal and my Daughter decided to call it a day. A Birthday lunch spoilt. Though we did eventually got some recompense the initial offer was not to charge for the fish we hadn' had.
