We had dinner here this evening. I have eaten here before on many occasions over the past 20yrs and have never been disappointed. The steak night offer tonight was excellent. The food was beautifully cooked and presented well. The service was 100% perfect. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating.All the surroundings are very well maintained and immaculately clean. We can not recommend this place highly enough.

We had dinner at Tykes on the 28/02 as we were staying next door at Sandburn Hall. We booked a table, but the restaurant was fairly quiet. The tables are set out really nicely with plenty of space between neighbouring tables so you don’t feel cramped. For mains, we had the ‘Tykes Burger’ and ‘Duo Of Lamb’. Both meals were delicious- it took a little while for food to come but you can tell it’s because it’s cooked from scratch, quality was amazing and really tasty! We went for the ‘Banana Mille-Fuille’ for dessert - again really yummy! The staff were all really friendly and attentive. The menu wasn’t huge and there was quite a few dishes that I personally wouldn’t choose so if you’re picky it’s maybe best to have a look at the menu beforehand. I’d love it if it was closer to home as I’d definitely come again! If we stay at Sandburn Hall again I’ll definitely book a table.

Had Sunday lunch here today and we were impressed. Beef was great with just enough accompaniments, not over-faced and the gravy was delicious.The restaurant was pretty much full but the table spacing is great and plenty of staff on hand. Our waitress was wonderful, should have got her name but she was smiley, polite, efficient and asked us where we were from and we had a polite conversation. Very good.We will definitely be back.

Just an ok experience, which is disappointing after seeing some lovely reviews. Went for Sunday lunch but was told after ordering drinks that service for Sunday lunch had stopped (3 minutes earlier)Ordered 2 burgers, 2 kids meals & chicken breast main. The burgers were good, kids meals were poor, no vegetables offered. The chicken breast was dry, the leg tasted stale and was very oily.Our waitress went awol, so we wast tended to for the duration of our meal. Being without drinks and dessert, we left within an hour. Won't be in a rush to go back sadly

Really quiet on an early January Tuesday night which isn't surprising as it out of the way for a lot of people. Love it here and have been visiting for 15 years. In all that time, I've never had a meal that I thought was "just OK". It's consistently good quality, and excellent service. It's slightly expensive but the quality of the food and the fact it's all locally sourced is worth the extra.I love the open, airy feel due to the open kitchen and the tall ceilings.Just wish they'd bring back their cookie based baked Alaska. (Hint hint), even if it's just for an event evening (such as the seafood nights).

I’ve been to Tykes a few times, and the food has always been good. Today was my first time for Sunday Lunch and I have to say I was really surprised, the food was outstanding. I had the roast beef, the meat was tender and really well cooked, the veg was fresh tasting and really well cooked. My partner who is vegetarian and gluten free had the nut roast, she really liked it. Would definitely recommend, I’ll be back for more.

Huge Disappointment, we booked into tykes restaurant with very high expectations due to the extremely beautiful place and to be fair the prices of the dishes. For starter we had chicken and sea bass £9.50 for a sea bass which was ok but only ok… the skin definitely needed more crisp to it and the chicken £9, we didn’t get a check back for the starters and she didn’t even ask if everything was okay when she cleared the plates away. I had to tell her the chicken was awful! It came served with radicchio which tasted like it’d just been pulled out of the ground.Any way on to mains we ordered chicken and Monkfish, the chicken was ok.. the portion size was tight, the chicken breast was lovely but it started on the menu that the leg was a crispy confit leg and to us it was just deep fried…The monkfish was awful! I’ve never tasted a dryer fish! I couldn’t eat it at all, the potatoes that it was accompanied by where also just embarrassing, presentation wasn’t even great, sauce looked chucked in, splashed all over the plate and grease on the side of the plate too… I asked to choose something else so I chose the beef cheek which long story short ended up being really lovely but it’s not a complicated dish. The only time the waitress came to check on us was to ask us if we wanted any coffee to finish off and I’m guessing that was because she wanted us to pay and leave as there was only one other table in at this point and they had just asked for their bill. So overall I was really upset that me and my partner weren’t able to sit and eat a meal together on his birthday.They did discount the bill but it wasn’t about the money it was just so disappointing we really wanted it to be better
