Disappointed. Food was average and service terribly rushed. a bit stressful overall. Would not consider going again.

We stayed for three nights in between Christmas and New Year. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The room was a good size , I found the bed too soft but my husband found it just right. The shower was reported to the staff , it was way too hot to use safely. To be fair to the staff it wasn't a good time of year to get a plumber out. The room was plenty warm enough, you can adjust the heating in the room yourself. Plenty of clean towels and washing products in the bathroom. The breakfast was a good size, a selection of some cereals, bread, croissants and a variety of cooked breakfasts. We ate in the pub on the first night, I would recommend booking as it gets very busy. The food was quickly served and plenty of it. We walked into York which only took 20-30 minutes. There is a river walk but as it was flooded we remained in the main road. There are numerous bus services going to York and surrounding areas. We never used our car, far too busy and expensive to park in town.

We stayed at The Plough Inn for my birthday weekend on a visit to York and what a great choice! All the team are really friendly and couldn't be nicer - warm and welcoming on arrival and happy to share tips on what to see in York which we appreciated. The rooms are comfortable, clean and decorated in a quirky style. The inn is well located for exploring York city centre and the bus stop when you turn left outside the inn has you into the center in no time. Breakfast is cooked to your requirements, although beware the portions are large! We also ate dinner at the inn and again the food was delicious. We will definitely be returning to York and without doubt will book to stay at the Plough again. Thank you for a lovey stay :)

The plough is a great pub with really good home cooked food. I had the Turkey dinner which was excellent. Staff were really friendly & the beer was good. Would definitely return when I’m next in York.

We booked a table for three for a birthday treat. When we got there the table was two steps inside the door facing it. There was no porch so the door opened straight to outside. It was 3 degrees so every time the door opened it was freezing. Also as the table was right by the door there were lots of people standing over it. We asked for an alternative table but were told that it was too busy. We asked why they hadn’t told us about where the table would be. They just shrugged and said they were really busy. I understand they were busy but if they couldn’t fit us in on a suitable table they shouldn’t have taken the booking. If you want to book here ask specifically not to be by the door. We left without ordering.

Grim. Was looking forward to a Sunday roast but was not on the menu or Specials board. The gammon was way over-cooked, dry, tough & tasteless. The chips were soggy, not crisp. The wine was over-priced for the quality. This used to be a favourite haunt when we lived in York but won't visit again.

Enjoyed our short stay at The Plough. Loved the styling of the bedroom, nicely quirky. Being vegetarian we always worry about the lack of choice with food, but found great variety in the menu. A very pleasant stay to visit the lovely city of York.

Looking forward to the food here but were disappointed. Ordered the pies but we’re surprised when they arrived within 10 minutes. Not surprisingly the steak pie wasn’t hot so was returned to the kitchen. Another very short wait brought a different pie, this time hot but with pastry you couldn’t put a knife through. Our complaint fell on the deaf ears of young staff that didn’t really care. No offer of discount or apology. Won’t be rushing back.

Very nice. Well prepared, nicely presented, and tasty food. Busy pub, but service was quick. Parking was available in the back.
