We dropped in here for lunch on the last Saturday before Christmas after a good walk. The food and the welcome were absolutely excellent and the prices were good too. The bar area is dog friendly.

An incredible visit. High quality food, drinks and service at a price that belies the exceptional dishes we were fortunate to have. The main restaurant was closed and we were sat in the bar area, this actually made the evening nicer. It was more intimate with the fire roaring. The service was personal and professional. We had 3 courses, of all of which were fantastic. Fish Stew, Mussels, Lamb Shoulder, Pork Loin, Tarte Tartin, Treacle Tart. Washed down with some lovely pre dinner drinks, a bottle of Chateau Musar and a couple of Desert Wines. Couldn’t recommend highly enough, next time we get to Middleham, The Tack Room will be our restaurant of choice

I have just had the most delightful weekend at The Wensleydale with some old school friends. We ate in The Tack Room on both the nights we were staying there and 3 of our party had dogs so we were seated in the bar area and made to feel incredibly welcome. We were impressed by the tempting choices on the menu and the food was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully. The following evening, we had exactly the same high standard of food - not to mention excellent wines to complement. Thank you chef! A special mention must go to Rui who was always attentive and had to navigate around our dogs to get to the table, and did so very good grace! Also thanks to Monty who looked after us on Sat eve who was professional and charming. Must also mention the amazing breakfasts too! Those sausages are some of the best I’ve ever had for hotel breakfast. Really set us up well for walking in the Dales. Thank you to Fiona and all the team for making us feel valued customers throughout the weekend.

I phoned up on Thursday to book a table for three people on the Saturday. I was told that they had a table at 7.00 pm. I gave my name and mobile phone number. We arrived at the restaurant to be told that the restaurant was fully booked and they couldn’t accommodate us. It was the same man I had spoken to on the phone because I recognised his voice and accent. He said he didn’t have my name on the list and was adamant that I had not booked because I should have received a text. There was no mention of texts when I spoke to him over the phone. When I challenged this he was rude and aggressive saying it was my word against his. There was no politeness or apology that he had made a mistake (which might have been easier to accept) just arrogance and rudeness. I let him know that I was going to make a complaint to management and he replied that there was no one to make a complaint to. The bar we were in was empty (I wonder if he would have behaved like this if there had been other customers around) and my guests noted that the restaurant was also empty. I have never been treated like this in an establishment before. I was shocked at the way we had been treated/spoken to. Please be warned about the appalling treatment of customers at this restaurant. You shouldn’t have to experience this from anyone let alone a hotel/restaurant it just beggars belief!!

Called in for lunch, after looking at the menu outside we made our choices. The first two choices my hubby chose turned out to be unavailable. His third choice, wensleydale cheese on ciabbata was a big disappointment. A VERY small amount of cheese and a pile of green leaves, no onion, no tomato, no coleslaw...cost £8. My choice was scrambled eggs and smoked salmon....a huge amount of egg, a small amount of salmon....£12. Definitely not value for money. Wouldn't recommend or return.

The food, the service and the wine was outstanding. We were greeted by an extremely friendly yet professional waiter who was knowledgeable about both the food and the wine. The Puligny Montrachet complimented the food perfectly. The chef definitely knows his onions from his chalotes, the flavours were subtle and balanced. We had the soufflé and the moules to start with followed the cod and the risotto. A really perfect evening. Thank you

A very pleasant meal on a Sunday evening - beautifully presented. I very much enjoyed sea bream with samphire. The manager and waiter (the son of the owners) were cheerful and friendly. A delightful feature of the very interesting small town of Middleham notable for its Richard III connection and many race horses.

Came for lunch both ordered the baked scallops and fries. The fries were over-salted and the scallop dish, served in a half shell, was teeth-meltingly sweet. The salad was nothing but leaves. Not good. People were coming in after us to ask for lunch only to be told rudely that "lunch has finished!" It was 1.30pm. At no point were we asked how our lunch was, hence this review. Obviously won't be going back.

If you want a restaurant with fantastic food and service, this is the place for you. Great views out into Middleham Town. Lovely friendly staff who are happy to help with recommendations. We had the mussels to start and the scallops, both of which were delicious. I suggest keeping the tasty complimentary bread they give you to dip in the mussels sauce. My main course of seabream with samphire and potato croquette was perfectly cooked. All washed down with a lovely bottle of Gavi. Give this place a go, you will not be disappointed. See you soon.

We found this restaurant online and oh what a find, It will be worth having another holiday in North Yorkshire to eat there again. Excellent ambience with its theme based om Middlehams racing stables - hence the Tack Room. Tasteful decor plus how good to have spotless white linen tablecloths. The food was delicious. Really good! Service friendly ( by the owners) but discreet. Loved it!
