**Worst customer service i have ever received.** I firstly visited to get a voucher on behalf of my grandparents. My grandpa had spoke to them on the phone who said we would have to specially come in for a voucher: as they are not local me and my sister went in. We were told on the day we couldn’t get a voucher that day and would have to come back as there was a private event on later in the evening- we were spoken to in a rude way and simply rushed out the resteraunt. I can understand if they were busy, however at this point there were simply two customers in the premesis. This issue was dealt with over messages in a professional way and my sister managed to pick up the voucher. We thought everything was sorted. However, 2 weeks from this when a booking was tried to be made, I was informed that my mum was told’l Ah yes! Sorry I've been waiting to finalise things with the landlord of the cross keys before announcing publicly what's happening. But yes you definitely will be able to use your existing gift voucher in the new venue. As for time frame, I am waiting to hear back from the architect and builder about the quoted price I'm hoping to hear back on Tuesday next week. From there it should be a couple of months to get turned around!’ She then asked if there was a sistering resteraunt and that this response seemed awfully vague. To this she was told ‘ Not at the moment, I am looking at doing something in another pub in the meanwhile between the cross keys and the new project though!’. The website is now no longer accessible either. To sum this up- uovo no longer exists for the time being and they aren’t sure when the new premises will even be ready to have the dining back up and running. I am just disappointed that the company allowed us to purchase a voucher of £120, most likely knowing the future of the business; it would have just been easier if they had told us this so we could have spent that money with a business where a meal would have been able to be booked. Luckily we have been refunded but the way this was done was even more shocking. The response both me and my sister received was so unprofessional and cold. I am still in shock about the messages we received: my sister was certainly not rude and i know for a fact these messages were sent as they had been caught out for taking people’s money wrongly. I am just grateful we have been refunded. I honestly wouldn’t have felt the need to share this publicly until we received the messages we did today. So incredibly shocked and disappointed.

We have been wanting to try Uozo at The Cross Keys for some time, and we finally got round to it last night. I’m so glad we did. We had the tasting menu, consisting of 7 courses and my husband had the flight of wines to pair with each dish. Every dish was carefully planned and beautifully executed with sometimes an unusual choice of wines, but that seems to me to be the point of a tasting menu; to try unusual dishes and wines. Everything was beautifully cooked and presented from the champagne granita with the Lindisfarne Oyster to the local brewery stout ice cream. In between a delicious artichoke veloute and a delicate stone bass. Each dish was a treat and the service was attentive and informed. My husband has coeliac disease and this was taken very seriously in the preparation of the food. David and Matt (I think) are a great team and passionate about the food and wine. Thank you for an oasis of calm and deliciousness in the pre Christmas rush, such a treat.

Very good food which would be worthy of any high end restaurant. Cocktails were well made. Service was friendly and efficient if slightly too formal for my own taste but that shouldn’t stop you going. Hopefully there will be enough people in Malton wanting this sophistication of cooking and it will thrive. We will be back in the new year for the tasting menu hopefully. Excellent

Had a lovely evening here with excellent food. Amazing attention to detail across the tasting menu. We opted for 5 courses but wished we had gone for 7 as everything was so good. Will definitely be returning.

What an amazing restaurant! The food was fabulous, such attention to detail. Very much enjoyed the whole experience. Could easily have worked our way through the whole menu, will certainly be visiting Malton again to eat at Uovo!

We had our first visit to Uovo at The Cross Keys last night and we were delighted to have such a great new restaurant in Malton! The menu was very interesting (local and seasonal) but we opted for the blind tasting menu and were not disappointed, varied dishes, lovely flavours, which were well presented. We were guided by Matt for our Wine choices which all worked well with the different courses, thanks! Service was informed and friendly at a nice pace that allowed you to enjoy and savour each course! Highly recommend and can’t wait to go back!

Excellent food, great service, affordable! We have been at this superb restaurant on three occasions and have not been disappointed. Highly recommended if you looking for a good night out enjoying a well planned menu and competent and friendly service!

Sad to see the cross keys close again, we were excited to see it was reopening as a fine dining restaurant. Being foodies, we were looking forward to our Saturday night reservation. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be! After a fairly warm welcome we were shown to our table. After studying the drinks menu we settled on a good bottle of wine and a couple of cocktails, negroni was very good but the second cocktail (forgot the name) had an odd after taste. Half an hour passed and finally received the food menu. We decided on the tasting menu even though there was no indication on the courses. This is were the slow service got even slower…after almost two hours we had only just received course 3 of 5. The food thus far was tasty, although nothing spectacular. Feeling frustrated along with the adjacent table we asked for the bill and cut the meal short. Consistency is the key, but I get the feeling it was lacking on this particular evening. We read the restaurant is aiming for a Michelin star…on service, unfortunately, it has some way to go!

Visiting from the Lake District, an area known for top quality dining, we were impressed by the superb cookery and front of house offered at Dinner by Uovo at the Cross Keys; which adds a wonderful new fine-dining venue to Malton. Very best wishes, you deserve to do very well and we look forward to visiting again.

My friend and I had heard about the new dining experience at Dinner by Uovo and just had to try it. From the moment you walk through the door & are greeted by Matt and Lily, you know it is going to be something special. The ambiance is relaxed, friendly & welcoming. Starting with an amuse bouche of chicken liver parfait with a Merlot gel our tastebuds were taken on the most amazing, flavoursome journey through a chef-selected 5 course tasting menu from Yorkshire chorizo croquettes to braised pork cheeks to butternut squash risotto to grilled sirloin of beef and finally the Merlot poached Victoria plum, vanilla ice cream, frangipan & Merlot gel. We were wowed by every course! The presentation and little accompaniments on each dish had been carefully selected and expertly cooked, delivering delightful bursts of flavour in each mouthful. Chef David even found a moment to personally serve one of the courses - what a lovely touch. Chef’s knowledge and sense of ingredient adventure is like nothing we had experienced before. Matt’s wine knowledge and ability to recommend something special to pair with each course is superb - they have some very special wines! His hosting skills are exceptional, making each guest feel very special. Knowing that the food is sourced locally and that the menu is changed regularly, we’re excited to return. If you’re looking to celebrate an occasion or purely want a special dining experience, you’ve got to give Uovo a go!

We were not looking for Uovo, but Uovo found us! Sitting in a bar in Malton, we got talking to a friendly couple, who when we told them of our plans that evening, immediately told us to change them, and to try Uovo at The Cross Keys. One phone call later we were booked in! What greeted us on arrival was a traditional pub in the sense of tankard's hanging from the ceiling and the obligatory checkered carpet, what was not your usual run of the mill put was the service and the food. We were welcomed by Matt who immediately made us feel at home, offering a choice of aperitifs, I would recommend the house punch! The food was sublime, full of flavour and inventiveness, but kept true to the provenance and the let the ingredients do the talking, and the wine list was thoughtful and had something for everyone. What is even more astonishing but also commendable, was that the whole operation was run by 3 people that evening, and only one in the kitchen. When finally service was over, David (chef) left the kitchen to grab a well earned beer, only to have to head back to wash up all the pots and plates from the evening. If you are looking for somewhere in Malton that really does add to the 'Food Capital of Yorkshire', then this is it!
