This was a return visit to Grantley Hall, our previous one being to Shaun Rankin's restaurant. The weather on our recent visit was awful - cold, windy and heavy rain but it was a haven of comfort the moment that we stepped through the door at Grantley. The meal was lovely but my husband wished that he had chosen the pheasant which I had rather than the mushroom risotto. The service was impeccable and the whole dining experience was so enjoyable that we intend returning.

Won't find better. Absolutely first class. I have been to many restaurants and nothing compares. From level of service to quality of food.. absolutely perfect.

The starter and dessert were very good but the main course - both my wife and I had the halibut - was disappointing! It was very salty and over cooked/dry! When we complained about this we were offered desserts on the house, which was a nice gesture. Whilst enjoying a glass of prosecco in the bar before dinner we felt rather abandoned, as staff were passing us by and we weren't offered a menu to peruse. When booking I mentioned that it was my wife's birthday but there was no recognition of this, which was disappointing. All in all a very disappointing ... and costly ... experience!!

Nice relaxing place for dinner with a good menu, but our dishes were somewhat disappointing

As always the service and food at Fletchers was exceptional on our recent visit. The staff were without exception attentive, professional and friendly. Each plate of food came in perfect timing, despite two of our party of 4 having the 4 course set menu. All beautifully cooked and presented. Even the coffees at the end were noticeably better quality and came with a lovely homemade shortbread - little touches like this are much appreciated. Well done all - a slick and well- managed team.

One dreadful experience never to be repeated. I could go on for ever about this restaurant of how bad it was and at an very expensive rate for a ok meal. But I won't because I have better things to do. But the worst is when things go wrong they cannot be bothered to contact you to find out why.

We went to Grantley Hall for lunch at Fletcher's Restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was lovely and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We chose the set menu and opted for the wines recommended to go with it. This didn't include a desert wine. I asked the waiter what would go with the desert and as my husband had decided against the set menu desert in favour of cheese I asked about a port. The menu brought didn't include port by the glass but did have dry sherry by the glass. At the end of the meal I told the waiter that whilst the desert wine options were good, that they hadn't gone with the food. It was at this point that things went fiwnhill. Another diner took it upon himself to butt in to contradict me saying that I was wrong about the menu not having port and he had goodness knows how many years of Michelin star experience so I was wrong and he was right. Four other diners in the restaurant witnessed the whole sorry episode of me standing my ground. Whilst the food and staff were great the overall experience was awful. I know that the venue and staff have no control over the standard of guests but this was an awful experience. The other guest so obviously felt he was superior to and knew better than the rest of us that he had to make a show of it. Just because he had a flashy car and a foreign companion didn't make him the arbiter of what was right for us. This experience ruined our day. When eating our starter I had expressed the wish to go back to the hotel to stay but if that's an example of the sort of other clientele we can expect I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. So sorry to have had to write this but my day that started so well has ended in misery.

Stayed at Grantley Hall for 4 days so hotel breakfast was here (quite good), but we also had lunch al fresco outside on a lovely spring day after a long hike (lovely) and also had our final dinner here. Dinner was excellent - we tried multiple courses including lots of very large steaks which were delicious, and the standout was of course the sommelier who helped us with a fantastic bottle of Latour (which was at shop price I might add!). A great hotel restaurant.

We dined at Fletchers on Saturday, Sunday & Monday. Saturday was a quick bite, Sunday was a three course affair & Monday was a speedy cream tea. This restaurant is inside Grantley Hall, you can dine outside in the courtyard or in one of their stunning dining rooms, we luckily got to try out all 3! You can have a drink in Norton’s bar before your meal, I recommend trying some cocktails, so many options & I tried out a few! Honey Spritz, Juliet, JK Rowling were all very tasty! You also can’t go wrong with the Grantley G&T which is brilliant. The quick bite to eat was just the right portion for what we were after. Chicken burger was beautifully succulent with a hint of truffle to the gooey cheese. The club sandwich was unpretentious & as expected but I think my husband had a bit of food envy watching me eat my burger! The fries were cooked perfectly & a boat of mayo to dip into was very generous! Sunday lunch was a whole other experience, we went with the scallops & crab raviolo to start. Both were lovely. Then the beef Wellington for main with a request for some yorkshires which were very yummy! The meat was tender & pink & slicing through it was no effort at all. The red wine jus was rich & silky, horseradish packed a punch, all in all, stand out. We went with the crème brûlée & the posh ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ for dessert which were both creamy & indulgent & generous portions. The bit I loved most was the little amaretto biscuit that came on the side - this was just delish! The Cream Tea on Monday we had outside in the courtyard. It was very traditional with some sweet jams & a great cuppa. What more could you ask for? All in all a great place to dine & I would definitely recommend coming to do all three courses & making an afternoon of it. There’s plenty to choose from on the menu so you will be spoilt for choice! Clothing wise we saw a mixture, you can dress up without feeling overdressed, some men were in a shirt & tie and others a lot more casual. There were a lot of ladies in dresses & pant suits so use this as an excuse to get your fancy gear out!

I must start by saying Grantley is expensive - around £100/head in Fletchers for a 3 course lunch with all the trimmings and a couple of bottles of decent wine, so it’s not for everyone but if you want a special treat there is nowhere better! Although the food is the star (will come back to that) it’s about the whole experience. From the minute you arrive at the front gate and are greeted with a friendly hello before you ride down the elegant drive, along the banks of the river Skell, you know this is no ordinary place and when Grantley Hall comes it view your expectations move up another gear. Once you arrive at the door you are greeted by name - the man at the gate has already phoned to say your on your way. Whilst the car is ushered away we were shown into the drawing room and sat by a big log fire to have drink whilst we pursue the menu. The food itself is just amazing, I started with a crab and smoked salmon dish followed by a a fabulous fillet steak perfectly cooked in the Josper charcoal oven, my sweet was a Yorkshire rhubarb based creation which was delicious. To end with we went back to drawing room for coffee by the fire. We left around 5pm after a fabulous afternoon. The staff we all helpful, chatty friendly, especially our waiter, Victor, who looked after us perfectly. As we left the ladies we’re giving a small selection of chocolates as a memento, a perfect end to lovely afternoon!

Grantley Hall is truly a 5 * hotel in superb grounds. Food at Fletchers is fine dining - expensive but good quality and well presented. Fletchers is a conundrum as dinner service was great and the food outstanding. BUT it was disturbing to see the large number of guests having to use their mobile phone torch - to read the menu in the VERY subdued lighting. Various sites have reviews which raise this as an issue. Our problem was, that for fine dining, we were not expecting Yorkshire sized portions! It was embarrassing to have to leave such fabulous quality food on our plates. Service was friendly, efficient and very professional. Breakfast in Fletchers was a very different experience. Fawlty Towers came to mind. The food was outstanding in quality and preparation. But, from there things always went downhill. Our coffee poured grounds into our cups -NOT 5* service but the problem was resolved without issue. Meanwhile, without my noticing my half finished plate of food was removed from the table! NOT 5* service One day we were offered toast, another we were not - NOT 5* service Having enjoyed the beef wellington (£47.50) the previous evening, my appetite was somewhat diminished. To balance this I chose a limited number of items from the English breakfast menu. To my horror - not a complaint but a point to ponder for GH - my plate was FULL of the items I did order. I could not eat it all and was upset. There was even a fabulous sausage that I did NOT order. I wanted same portion not increased! Sorry chef! Our finished plates - except my unfinished plate - were not removed from the table which then became crowded with dirty crockery. NOT 5* service. Jay Rainer - the food critic - raised some of these issues in his review of Fletchers. I raise them again because Grantley Hall either does not read reviews, or worse still it ignores them Transparency: We did receive, on arrival, a room upgrade for which we were grateful - very! The rooms are amazing - and so is the Spa! I have already made these comments to Grantley and they have not acknowledged or responded. So we are genuine guests with no axe to grind but we query the overall 5*

From driving up the stunning drive to the friendly doorman and staff inside the place it has a homely feel about it. The whole place inside and out is immaculate. The Fletchers restaurant food and service was as you would expect from a top top place. Beef Wellington was fab. Norton bar next door ideal for pre drinks and after coffees. You have to visit this Hotel.
