Jade made us so welcome in what was a major issue for the village, no water. The whole staff went well above and beyond to serve their customers. Much better experience than the pub by the river. Thank you Jade and staff, we will be back. Cheers.

Dined here on Christmas Eve with family of Six. A warm welcome, great service and Food! One of the best menus I have seen in a long while and everyone enjoyed their lunch. I would recommend dinning here if you are passing by or staying in the area.

Excellent pub not far from the motorway way made it a great stop en route to Edinburgh. We walked in to find the bar full of locals but the friendly staff immediately saw us and showed us to our room. The food was excellent, the winelist is well thought out and fairly priced and there is a wide selection of cocktails and digestives. The room was comfortable and clean but could do with a bit of updating. All the staff are very well trained and Matt, the landlord, clearly runs a tight ship that gives the place a very relaxed feel. Thank you all.

Superb. 5 of us went on Saturday night, 1st time for myself, and we weren't disappointed.Menu isn't vast, but personally, I like that as too much choice isn't always a good thingService was great food was top notch and all at a reasonable priceDefoe recommend ?We will be back?

4 of us Stopped here for 1 night, the bedroom was quaint, all of them were named after famous Bruce's. We had the Ken Bruce and the Bruce Springsteen! Booked in for evening meal which was fantastic, warm runny yolk Scotch egg, followed by Braised Beef Cheek and Sticky Toffee Pudding with Vanilla ice cream all were excellent! Good selection of wines and a nice pint of Theakstones bitter. The breakfast was also excellent, quality bacon sausage blackpudding with tomatoe mushrooms beans and lovely egg! Warm Croissants and Pan au chocolat home made jam cereal if you wanted it and a fantastic Apple and Rhubarb juice. Matt was a fantastic host and I would recommend a night at the Bruce Arms with or without your dog and I nice country walk!Noteworthy details: Another nice pub across the road. Loads of walking routes, 20 min walk to Nosterfield nature reserve .

Great, relaxed pub setting but with exceptional dining experience. The food and service put some more supposed high end restraunts I have eaten in to shame. All 3 courses were fantastic. Matt was an amazing host and his presentation of the delicious cheese board at the end of our meal showed his passion for quality! Highly recommended !!!

Beautiful pub. Lovely dining room where our large party ate last night. Fabulous food served in a candle lit dining room with a roaring fire. Lovely staff. Thanks for hosting us.

Staying at a nearby retreat we booked to eat lunch at The Bruce Arms, in the village of West Tanfield on both the Friday and the Sunday. I want you to know that this could so easily be an "excellent" review but for encountering a familiar problem. We have a vegetarian in our party and when we are planning to visit somewhere new we will always be looking at your website menus to see what's on offer. When we arrive to find that your actual menu is different from the one advertised on your website it will always lead to disappointment. My partner had the vegetable tart tartin on offer and thought it was a bit chunky and raw but ok. I had the sausage and mash special which was absolutely incredible with homemade sausage roll, sweet with herbs, beautiful black pudding, a Lincolnshire sausage, the most creamy, buttery mash, lovely veg and wonderful red wine sauce. It really was fantastic and the 3rd person in our party had the soup and a mackerel pate both of which were excellent. On the Sunday for lunch it's just the 2 of us. Again on your website the vegetarian choice of nut roast is advertised and we are looking forward to it but when we arrive we find that the menu we are given has no nut roast but now has the vegetable tart tartin again which we don't want. The staff were wonderful and accommodating and sorted out a veggie Sunday lunch with veggie gravy. My roast pork Sunday lunch was again absolutely incredible, delicious and wonderful. I fully understand that you say that the menu is subject to change and you need to be able to do that for the benefit of the business but it really would help if you included your website offering in those changes.

Called up at last minute this evening, a table was available in 30 minutes, we arrived to a full bar, full of locals, I mean full, the atmosphere was brilliant lots of chatting and laughter, a Landlords dream, our meal was delivered promptly despite the Pub being so busy, Staff were attentive even though they were run off their feet, quality of our meal was excellent, so pleased to see a village Pub so busy, we will back soon

We both had the sirloin steak which whilst a little pricey at £35, was well worth the money. It was big, beautifully cooked and very tasty. There was nothing to fault, the chips were possibly the nicest we have ever had and the mushroom, tomatoe and salad accompanying the dish were great too. Nicely renovated as a traditional country pub and great service too. Highly recommend.
