This was probably one of the worst pubs. This was probably one of the worst pub This was probably one of the worst pub experience I've had!Staff all seem miserable, not a smile on any of their faces, not at all friendly. We ordered 2 meals that came with chips, and they were awful! You would think they had been par boiled, not fried. They were hard in the centre. We were asked if the meal was OK, I did say it wasn't and why. However, no apology, just an offer to replace the chips. We didn't bother. This place is not cheap either, £44 for 2 basic pub grub meals and a pint and a half of shandy. No reduction was offered when paying. The interior looks worn and depressing. It's definitely NOT worth a visit. After many times of driving down the A65 through to the Lake District we decided to make a stop off (finally) at the Maypole that we have always thought looked lovely every time we passed it. Today we tried it and had a lovely lunch. Steak and Ale pie is a must - lovely and filling and the Brie bites to start were delicious. Lovely staff, attentive and checking in on us at the right moments. Thanks !

Gave it 1 to start. Pub is generally ok but a bit jaded. Can get a bit crowded in the car park at school times as seems to be school car park. Had coffee late but small beeker half full. Had a snack of roased brie in a casing of battery breadcrumbs. One parcel was half filled while the second was completely empty. Mentioned it to staff and was told they would do another but said no need as it was not worth having. No offer of reduction. We learn!

My wife and I called in here for a drink and an evening meal.I had fish and chips and my wife had curry and chips. When the food arrived the chips were raw. A very light blanching and the fish seemed to be fish bits mashed together then shaped into a fish shape and fried. We had the chips replaced and the replacement arrived in under 2 minutes and again, raw! The lady behind the bar, when we told her couldn't careless. Worst meal ever, and very poor staff, take my advice and never come here!

My wife and I called into the Maypole Inn on our way home, I had fish and chips and my wife had curry and chips. The meals were disgusting! My fish looked like it was fish bits mashed together then shaped into a fish and then fried. The chips were raw after having them replaced 3 times for the same reason, we called it a day then. The very young waiter had no answer, I felt that he was scared to tell the kitchen about any problems, and the lady behind the bar couldn't care less. Worse pub ever we. We will never go there again. Take my advice. Go anywhere else but not here.

Great atmosphere! Beautiful place! Nice people! Highly recommended! We just had a couple of drinks and relaxed after traveling from Manchester on our way to Malham Cove. They even offered to drive us to our accommodations for the night, since we were having trouble getting a taxi.

On our aborted trip to the Isle of Man we were granted accommodation on Saturday afternoon. We really liked the hotel and the staff was very friendly. The guests and the live music were great too. Thank you for the help in need and now 5 stars are awarded. Greetings from Germany, Joe and Lothar.

Stopped for lunch on bank holiday Monday. Food was excellent. The staff were overrun but kept good humour and worked diligently. Would recommend it to anyone in the area

We called in at the Maypole after a long walk and planned to eat and drink. The person behind the bar was downright miserable and we felt like an inconvenience. The pub lacked atmosphere so we sat outside - next to the busy road! The ale was excellent to their credit but we chose to eat elsewhere.

We had a meal at the restaurant and regretted it. Stay away from the fish and chips. Our chips were still raw when served so we sent them back. After a long wait, we asked for the chips and we got a new portion - still raw. Took a while to get menus, took a while to order, and took ages to get the bill. We ended up going to the bar to pay, where the staff didnt really give us any attention. Would not recommend. Food was served fast though, and beer was good.

Oh dear. Could have been quite nice but just wasn’t. Generally unfriendly staff (but not all, about 50% surly) who made you feel like an inconvenience not a guest. No hot water at all for a morning shower. Almost ended up in argument with member of staff who eventually had to concede that yes, no hot water existed in the building (not sure what the cleaner who was washing the floor as I came down for breakfast was using…) Eat a poor breakfast 1 peice of bacon, one small sausage, one fried egg, one mushroom and a half slice of fried bread) to the sound of a hoover being used 10 ft away from me. Was only person in restaurant from 6-7:30 on a Sunday evening??? Sort of tells its own story really…. Room passable and clean. I paid £50 as a solo traveller for the night. Would not have liked to pay more. Another gentleman was actually leaving early, even though paid upfront ( wonder why they ask you to do this????). Just not a nice relaxing stay. I don’t get the chance to stay away very often - maybe the staff need to think about this instead of standing bitching in earshot about everything. Just not great.

We called at the Maypole on a Sunday lunch time after a weekend away. We booked a table on line which was easy and it was confirmed by email very quickly. We were warmly welcomed and the staff were helpful and friendly. The food was home made and absolutely delicious. A great menu to choose from and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend the meals and service. As the other pub in the village has closed I hope the Maypole continues to get the custom it deserves. We will definitely be back

We had a lunch here. Excellent range of beer in this characterful village pub. We had traditional pub lunch but there are contemporary meals on offer. Portions of cheese and ham were generous and tasty in our ploughman's and salad. Good selection of leaves and vegatables on our plates. Only slight disappointment was the chips which were ' soggy' for our taste. Food was nicely presented.Restaurant area looked attractive but we ate in bar where dogs are welcomed. Recommended.

Stopped for a pint on the way past. It is very difficult to get served as a non local. The barmaid served regulars who had arrived after me then a Second Lady came and carried on doing the same to the point that I gave up and left. A pity because I had previously had a very well kept pint of Landlord at this establishment. This is a local pub for locals best avoided if you’re just visiting.
