So, I don't like leaving poor reviews so I will mention the good point before I go on my rant. I had the chowder for a starter and it was beautiful! It was a very good portion size and was very good value for money. The lady that served me was polite and helpful. Now, the bad bits. Myself and my wife ordered a sirloin steak with pepper sauce off the menu. When they arrived we both were very surprised and disappointed. It was sliced up and ontop of a pile of fries which were covered in peppers, onions, spring onions, non of which were on the menu. We were expecting a nice steak with a side of fries, which we didn't receive. If that wasn't bad enough, all the fries were covered with cheese that had gone hard and so the whole dish was one big congealed mess. The steak was of poor quality and was very chewy. Disgusting!!!! On top of this, the owner of the bar was sitting at the end of the bar and watched everyone eat like he was waiting to come over and have ago! I felt very over looked as did the lovely couple next to us who left before they had food after seeing the treatment we received. Then, to add insult to injury the lady that brought our bill told us there was a 5percent discretionary service charge on top of the bill. My wife asked for this to be removed. The whole meal was a waste of our money and time. As the bill was nearly 80quid which was way to expensive. One jack and joke coming in at nearly 9 pounds! Robbery.I don't like leaving bad reviews but I want anyone who may use this place to be aware of this. Don't go expecting a nice simple well cooked steak.

Dropped in one evening when away with my hubby. Lovely hostess saw is to a corner in the bar but we had no where to put our feet or knees but we were being romantic so put up with it.We ordered the chowder and a garlic bread to start they were lovely. Really tasty but way too much dry garlic bread. When the mains came they were supposed to be 'sirloin steaks smothered in pepper sauce' they were cheap cuts of chewy steaks served on a bed on chips that were buried in melted cheese covered in diced capsicum peppers... it was inedible.. I told the waitress and she did offer to get me something else but I was getting even more uncomfortable in our little corner so I said I was OK. The boll then came and she explained test it had a 5%service charge added automatically. I asked her to remove it and she did straight away. To top it all off, what I can only presume was the owner/manager of the place was watching everyone eat or drink all night whoever his staff were running around like headless chicken.... we will NOT be back.

Before arrival we had rang to enquire whether our booking was still valid as we wasn't sure if it was open or not. When the phone was answered we was told to ring back in 10 minutes then they would know whether we was allowed to dine in or not.Upon arrival we could see that things still weren't finished outside due to workmen still drilling and the outside looked closed, however we was welcomed in.The service was ok & the staff where friendly & polite. The food was not worth the money in my opinion. We ordered onion rings which were undercooked, vegetable spring rolls were cold, the camembert was bitty & slightly sour were we had to check the date as it tasted slightly off, the garlic bread was way overdone. We did have dirty fries & chunky chips & they were absolutely spot on. So delicious. We had various cocktails which were satisfactory. We were looking forward to choosing off the old menu but wasn't notified that the menu had changed & felt that they wasn't much choice on the new menu.

Lovely bar on the front, you can eat here but we only had drinks. Atmosphere was good.Staff were very polite and good at the job.We had drinks and cocktails, cocktails were really good, a little expensive but it's not often we have them. Also the visit was made even better by the annual Whitby Santa tractor run, absolute class.

Great place right on the front at Whitby. Smart interior and slick service. Good choice of drinks with some nice wines by the glass on offer. Enjoyed early evening drinks on NY Eve - top bar.

When we walked in there was no reception, the guy in the kitchen sent someone through to serve us and she had 0 customer service skills. She stared us down while we were saying our order which made us really uncomfortable, the drinks were served in takeaway cups even though we were sitting in & she left a lot of room at the top of our teas, they should have been filled way higher for almost £3. Also - it was very unclear as to where all the sugars/sweeteners/stirrers were, I had to get them all myself as she didn't help us out with that.. the caramel slice was also served in a really cheap cardboard box, not even on a plate. For £2.90 I would expect a nice plate and fork. The place was also empty and I can see why. The staff really need to learn how to greet customers and actually provide a bit of a friendly attitude when serving.

It's just a very disappointing experience. Wrong bill twice with inexperienced staff not knowing the tables and people leaving after waiting over 25 minutes without attention or acknowledgement. I'm guessing it was the manager who apologised and did strongly re-educate staff in front of customers. We appreciate 2 staff members were off and the apologise. However, as an experienced Front of House Manager, you do need to ensure that staff are properly trained and bills are checked. It certainly helps with simple allocation of table numbers for staff and customers alike.

Nice setting but the service is really poor. We are not demanding guests but were not offered water upon taking over drinks order-despite water glasses being on the table. The waitress (Mia) came to take our order (we had not even ordered drinks at this point) and we were expected to order drinks and food in one order. Whilst the food was ok, this was quickly cleared away and we were asked if there was anything else. Upon Mia delivering the bill she appeared at the same time with the card machine-we felt the whole approach was rushed and hostile. We have visited Harry's twice before and this service was markedly different. The worst part is that a 5% service charge is applied. Would question coming back as there are many more hospitable places in Whitby.

A nice little bar on the harbour front, nice burgers and fish and chips, the beer was a bit pricey at 6.80 for an Estrella!!

Lovely bar, nice cocktails and a good location. Not the cheapest bar in Whitby. Staff friendly.

Very cold day in whitby. Staff at Harry's were very patient with my cold, sleepy 2 year old. Putting the outdoor heaters on, so I could have a hot drink and get him warmed up and off to sleep. Life savers on a very stressful dayNoteworthy details: Staff were great

From the minute we arrived we were looked after by the lovely staff….We were greeted & shown to our table by the very helpful & professional Emma she couldn’t have any more helpful. Lacey took our order & again very helpful and professional…the food was delicious & cooked too perfection. After the meal had a Espresso Martini which was prefect. Well done Harry’s we will be back
