Really good fish and chips. Big portions though. They do a small, regular and large. The small was big enough for me.

Very nice, assume it will be crowded at weekends and holiday periods.

Average quality food. Is it worth queuing outside waiting for the table? Definitely not. Also the smell inside tells you more about the food than this review.Kid-friendliness: Not really kid friendly. My 9 year old was literally kicked out when he was trying to protect himself from wind. It wasn’t packed behind the door so it wasn’t necessary. Also bit of politeness to the little one will not hurt but who cares nowadays.

I ordered haddock obviously not fresh cooked it was hard and fatty like it had been sitting on a hot plate. My daughters cod and chips plate swamped in oil.

Well what a horrible experience. Came in about 16.00hr ish yesterday 25/3/24. Had the pushchair whilst waiting to be served with my 2 year old. This older lady with zero manners shouted 'you can't leave that there' meaning the push chair, I asked where would you like me to leave it? 'I duno but not there!!!!'. I stood there quite shocked with her attitude. Even the young girl who was on shift was in shock she was lovely by the way, even she didn't know where to look!. We hadn't even ordered our food and she told us to wait out side, we said well we haven't even ordered yet, so then she said wait behind them people then!!!! even though she didn't tell the others to wait out side after they ordered and the people she told us to wait behind had already ordered. So with her attitude and other people looking at her as if to say how disgusting not only us. Well done for her for bringing the reputation of magpies down.I'm an owner of a caravan at primrose and often tell my guests to go to magpies well that will sharpy stop and I'll inform others on the owners sites about this. My poor daughter just stood looking as this woman was absolutely vile to us and other customers.Last time for sure we will be stepping foot in magpies. Been going for 8 years as well. I would advise staff training ASAP or keep her away from the public as she doesn't have PR skills.

I am disabled and was worried about the steps outside the Magpie Cafe. I am so happy that they have a lift from the ground, all the way up. It is located in their takeaway shop. I had crab and chips, definitely the best that I have ever tasted. Thank you, I will be back.Wheelchair accessibility: A great lift, for anyone with disabilities.
Lovely food brilliant service what more could you want.

Pleasant enough. Really friendly staff and very attentive. Food was nice. I feel a little flat about the experience but can’t put my finger on why.

After a great week in Whitby eating at the fisherman's wife , trenchers etc and eating the best fish and chips we have had at the latter two places. Then we ate at the magpie. We have eaten here three times over the last 5 years or so and it continues to be the like eating from your local terrible fish and chip shop. We ordered seared scallops. They had never seen heat in there lives, tasted of old horrible oil which was exactly what the haddock and chips we had as our mains. We so wanted things to be good but they are not. If your taste buds have given up the ghost you might like the place. However if you like the taste of fresh fish cooked perfectly in a light batter the go to the fisherman's wife or Trenchers.

Wouldn’t go again. Had to book but food was pretty poor. Burger gristly and chips average. Sea food nothing to scream about.
