I had a lovely large cod and chips. Fried in beef dripping, the food was delicious. The service was excellent and we will be returning to Trenchers on our next visit to Whitby.

Popped in on Friday evening on the off chance as we had heard good things about Trenchers, we weren't disappointed. The restaurant was lively and busy, we were able to get a table not long before they were due to close. Our waitress couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, very good selection on offer from the menu, the fish and chips were most excellent. Definitely one to go back to if back in the area. Highly recommended!

World class. Best in WhitbyWe usually frequent another popular Whitby establishment, but as we hadn’t booked in advance (crucial), we decided to try ‘Trenchers’ as they operate on a walk-in basis (for parties under 6-7 people I believe). We were greeted with a smile at the door and sat promptly in a lovely booth. Whereas we’re used to waiting a long time for a drinks order, let alone the drinks to arrive - our drinks AND food were on the table within 15 minutes. The fish and chips were the best I’ve ever had. Fresh, crisp, not greasy and well presented. The decor inside is stunning, toilets very clean and staff extremely welcoming and attentive. We’ll be frequenting here from now on.

Absolutely superb! The consistency of the batter was not too light, and certainly not too dense. It formed a perfect encasement for the incredibly fresh cod within to be protected when fried and almost steamed within a crunchy pouch!A minute or so less, and it would be undercooked. A couple of minutes more, it would be done to death. They’ve got this to perfection here! Highly recommend.

Beautiful food, had the chowder and crab salad to start and the fish platter for our main we ordered a side of new potatoes and chips but with so much fish and salad the sides were surplus. Excellent food, great to see the chefs creating the dishes to order. Can highly recommend we'll definitely visit next time we're in Whitby ?

Delicious mouthwatering fresh crab sandwiches, served with chips and a lovely side salad garnish. Also they do a fine fresh crab salad, alongside excellent traditional fish and chips and nice desserts. Definitely worth a visit if ever in Whitby or the surrounding area.

Visited Trenchers having seen various recommendations. The restaurant itself has a nice classical feel to it and has plenty of seating. Service from staff is really good, nothing is too much trouble. Had large haddock and chips with bread cake a pot of tea. The fish is of excellent quality and taste and the chips were cooked to perfection. I had requested skin off the haddock which they are happy to do. The large haddock is £18.95, it is expensive but the quality is high and on a par with other fish restaurants in Whitby
