Wonderful Sunday lunch with attentive polite service, excellent starter (large Yorkshire pud) and main course (baked celeriac), and the deserts looked great too. Look forward to returning when next in York.

Shocking service bordering on rude. Don't do it!!Sunday lunch looked very ordinary and poor. Had only been in there 30mins, we had drinks, which took three servers and over 10 mins to organise and finally managed to order starters. Before the starters arrived we were told they wanted the table back and that we needed to order our mains. The place for 75% empty. Obviously a tourist trap, the staff were disorganised and as I said bordering on rude. Two 60+ year old people won't be back, but we paid the bill and left, asking for an email for the manager, only to be told 'send an email to info@' .. - great caring service from start to finish - NOTPS our starters were OK, pretty average.

Fabulous lunchtime meal next to a rising river. we celebrated a 65th birthday with some very dear friends. I had the ox cheek on smoked mashed potatoes, Summarised in one word, superb! Our server, for this occasion was Lumi, and there are not enough wonderful things I could say about her looking after us. My lovely wife was arriving a few minutes late, and we had ordered drinks, and I asked Lumi to bring her A rum and Coke her only cocktail as soon as she arrived at the table if possible. Well Anne arrived I had a quick look for Lumi in a packed restaurant and I met her gaze and she was bringing the drink in hand. Wow! Her Recommendations to the table regarding the food were spot on. it was a fabulous time.

My partner and I went during restaurant week, so this is based on their special menu for that period. It was overall pretty good, but nothing special, and okay for the price. It really suffers from York having some very stiff competition.I had the black pudding bon bons and pork meatballs, whilst my partner had the cod cheeks, potato pave and banoffee cheesecake. The black pudding and meatballs were both very tasty, but extremely dry and lacked sufficient sauce to compensate - the meatball sauce in particular was overpowering but surprisingly sticky rather than compensating. The cod and potato were both good, but the potato needed a bit more to be a main course. The cod was probably the next part, being really well cooked and not needing the separate curry sauce provided due to being delicious. The cheesecake was also good, with a good balance of flavours. The wines we had were nice, although I don't remember them specifically beyond being a fruity Malbec and a Rueda and whilst not shown on the menu they do 125ml glasses.

Went for dinner. Starter from specials menu and Braised Ox Cheek in rich sauce for main genuinely one of the best meals I've ever eaten in a restaurant in the UK. I don't post restaurant reviews often but felt this one deserved it.

We enjoyed an evening here at the end of February. Our waitress Ani was incredible-the perfect blend of knowledgeable, passionate for the food, professional in manner and took control of her area well-she always knew when to attend to us and gave us enough time to make our decisions. She's an absolute assest to the place. Her recommendations on food enhanced our experience considerably-thank you Ani!!It was fairly quiet when we sat down on a table at the top section of the restaurant, initially we were disappointed not to be sat downstairs in the hustle and bustle but it soon got busy and the ambience was lovely. The decor is fab, check out the picture on the wall on the stairs with all the cartoon celebs that have visited, another member of staff stopped to talk to us about it, I didnt get his name but very pleasant to chat to and knowledgable about the restaurant. The food is great here, we had scallops and lamb to start, the lamb was fantastic!! Scallops were very good but the lamb won for us on the starters. We followed this with pork and ox cheek-the ox cheek on recommendation from Ani....it was incredible. If you're unsure whether to go at all just go and eat this dish-its fantastic!!! The pork was also good but the Ox cheek stood out for us by a mile. Following this, again recommended, was a bannoffee flavoured desert which was also excellent. We shared this and a cheese board. The cheese board I wouldn't recommend so much and the bannoffee desert was big enough to share and worth those extra calories!!All in all a really lovely evening with great food, great service in lovely surroundings.

I visited in May 2023 (and many other occasions)The Good-Great menu consisting of high quality ingredients, expertly prepared. A higher quality version of a brasserie menu.-Location. Wow. If you find a warm day and a riverside table outside, there isn't a nicer place to spend time. Close to the train station and walking distance to the Minster, this is in the heart of the city-Atmosphere. Great decor in a stunning old property. The entrance is magical. The Bad-This is a busy, popular spot. As such, the excellent staff can sometimes take time to get to you. Relax and enjoy the surroundings.-Bathrooms. They are clean and high quality, but are inside and upstairs. Not easy for those with more limited mobility.Greg's TipBook online for that popular outdoor seating in summer

2 stars only because our waitress was lovely and the ambience looks nice. We've waited for the food for over an hour, portions were very small and the taste was just fine. Nothing special. We've asked for the dessert menu right after mains and waited 30 min for the MENU to arrive so we decided to skip the dessert.Overpriced.
