Light atmosphere and good service. Healthy options and not to pricey either, the vegetables were crisp and fresh and everything was lovely on plate.

Visited 1894 last September when the evenings were still light. Unfortunately we arrived during a thunderstorm. We were glad you could park near the door which is in the middle of the golf club building if you keep driving past all the golfer's cars. However the rain was very heavy so we were more dishevelled than we would like to be entering a restaurant. A tall gentleman, presumably the manager greeted us very coldly and showed us to our table. There was no offer to take our coats or our wet umbrellas which had to drip on the floor. We did have a window table and despite the weather the view was magnificent. The food as you would expect from a Brown's restaurant was good, we had duck and sea trout followed by their delicious lemon tart. It is quite expensive. We observed those coming from the golf club were greeted warmly and the manager was happy to chat and smile with them. We just got cold efficient service which really spoiled what could have been a great and regular experience and we will not return. The website says "Come as you are from the beach" but I suspect if you are in your shorts or a bit sandy you too will be made to feel like second rate guests. The restaurant is upstairs but there is lift and it is signposted so you can find it.

Came here on a Thursday night and opted for the Early Bird menu with wine pairing. We booked for 6 pm and were the only people in the restaurant but it did fill up after 7. All the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. As for the food and wine, it was superb . I had the panko prawns with mango chutney and satay , just delicious as was my wife’s cauliflower soup. We had the sugar pit pork and venison for mains , again faultless ,as were our desserts of caramelised banana and white chocolate parfait . All for a bargain price of £34 and only £10 for wine pairing. I could not recommend this restaurant more highly and will be back.

Friendly staff, beautiful views, gorgeous food... A new favourite ❤️

This restaurant is above the golf club and doesn't look as nice from outside. However once inside the views over the strand beach are the main attraction. The food is high quality and beautifully presented. The staff could be a little friendlier.

We had the best experience. Great service, lovely attentive staff and great food. We went there for the early bird meal with wine pairing and it couldn’t have been better

Great food, stunning view, good service , whats not to like. Really good to get some proper service for a change - so many restaurants seem to be struggling , but not here. It really is a cut abover the rest - yeah it comes at a price, but at the end of the night you dont leave disappointed.....which seems to be so common in other places these days.

The best table with a view, food and service on the north coast….our visit to 1894 was a delight from start to finish. We wished to give our two guests a positive experience to end the day touring the north coast - and 1894 delivered.

Just returned from 1894 Restaurant at portstewart golf club. Everything was superb. We arrived a bit early so had a pre dinner gin in the bar. Our table was excellent with a great view over the beach and the sun going down over Donegal. We booked the £44 foodie menu which included a glass of matched wine with each course. There was 5 choices for each course and offered a good choice. The food was excellent. The wine matched each course perfectly. The service and staff were very helpful and friendly and had time for a chat. I have a very healthy appetite and I was completely satisfied. All 3 courses were both tasty and filling. If I had a favourite it was the cod cheek starter - exceptional. To have a superb fine dining experience including pre dinner drink for under a 100 quid was both exceptional value but when combined with the quality was quite frankly unbelievable. I have no hesitation in recommending the foodie deal.

Beautiful setting with the large windows overlooking the ocean, food was delicious but i felt i was in a cafe instead of a high class restaurant. There was no one to greet you as you arrived and i felt the tables were grubby with food on floor underneath. I asked for the lantern on table to be switched on but was told they probably hadn’t got a lighter because they haven’t been on since winter! There didnt seem to be anyone overseeing the customers or to welcome them. So disappointed as i was so looking forward to a special night. I dont usually review restaurants but i had to in this case. I also have to say we paid a lot for this meal. Probably the most expensive meal we have ever paid in Northern Ireland. Small things make a big difference to a customer eg Tablecloths, Tidy Staff, welcoming greeting. I definitely wont be back and could not recommend

1894 was the best restaurant we had the pleasure to eat at our entire trip. It was outstanding. Not only was the food delicious but the staff was incredibly awesome. I ordered a gin and tonic. The manager came over and talked to me about which gin I might like to try. (The Muff gin is a must.) Every dish we tried melted in our mouths. I had the 24 hour slow cooked lamb shoulder. All I can say is WOW.

Food wasn’t great for either of us - limited vegetarian menu. Rude staff - not interested in you when you weren’t ordering bottles of wine. Most good restaurants will serve premium draft beer. Well that didn’t happen. Very noisy, to the point of being uncomfortable And way too pricy for mediocre pretty tasteless food. Recommend giving this one a miss
