The Chequers Inn

We visited today for a bit of a full circle moment.
My wife and I had previously visited in December just before my wife was diagnosed with a very large brain tumor.
It is now April and after making a miraculous recovery from her surgery we decided to visit again on my last day off work after taking 5 months off.

We opted for the fixed menu, starting with Chicken Strips with BBQ sauce for the lady and a Calamari with citrus Mayo. Both were excellent, the citrus Mayo was perfect with the Calamari and the chicken strips vanished so quickly you could question if it was ever there at all! The wife was very pleased to say the least.

For mains, Scampi for me and a Lasagne, which gave me a little food envy, for the better half.
The scampi was very tasty, coating crispy and served with my choice of mushy peas and of course tartar sauce with a side of very important proper chips!
The Lasagne was a work of art and judging from the sauce which I quickly took the chance to dip in the sauce, it tasted divine, I think I will try it myself next time.

I am not a pudding man however I do enjoy my wife tucking into her favourites. However, when I saw the list of ice-cream available even I couldn't resist.
I would love to feedback on the meringue my wife chose however I nipped outside for a minute and it was gone, so I can only imagine how good it was. The ice-cream was real, quality, ice-cream, non of that catering packs of strawberry in site.

The drink selection was as you would expect from a reputable establishment and included Heineken 0.0 on tap which was nice to see in these times of choosing non alcoholic drinks and focus on safety.

Finally, the best part, the staff.
We were welcomed warmly upon arrive and seated promptly on a table for 2.
Our waitress came over for drinks very quickly and had the same happy, bubbly attitude which we remembered from previous visits, working very hard to keep us all pleased despite having her arm in a pot, determined not to let it beat her.
Another 2 members of the team came over during our stay and both the young ladies were also very polite and over all the trio were perfect hostesses.

Thank you so much for such a positive experience again, the only regret is not having cash in my pocket to leave a tip, you all deserved it!.
