Lovely place, with really nice staff. Would recommend anyone to stop in for some drinks and food. Look forward to coming back again this week!Food & drinks: We have tried main menu and specials. All were cooked to perfection and had decent sized portions

Well located & situated in a small hamlet on a main road 'twixt Worksop, Bawtry & Retford, easily accessible from the A1 feeder roads.Staff helpful, pleasant. Beer prices reasonable.Steak well cooked - 2x med. rare 16oz fillets @ £34.95 ..good accompanying portions of chips. A single medium mushroom & ⅓ of a small/medium grilled tomato. However the steaks well nicely flavoured & as ordered.Apple Strudel was also very tasty & recommended.Recommended for steaks. Cannot speak to other menu items or to rooms. Ample parking outside & main room is wheelchair accessible.NB - the chips portion in the fillet steak picrure is not representative of the portion as we ordered one portion of wedges & a portion of french fries. Which were served in separate bowls .Food & drinks: Good steaks . Bateman ales

We visited the White Horse for an evening meal (table booked for 5.30) with high hopes after several great experiences at the King William at Scaftworth. We arrived and ordered some drinks at the bar, sitting at a table next to the bar. We were told our table was, in fact, at the end of the area down the left hand side of the bar and moved. I'd add that we weren't shown to the table, asked if we wanted drinks or anything and effectively located ourselves to the table we had been sent to.There were some menus on the table and twenty minutes after we'd been sat, I went up to the bar to ask to order to be greeted by one of the staff asking me if I would like menus - It's nice to be asked but I do wonder what they thought we were doing down there for twenty minutes, particularly after being told they stop doing food at 7pm (this was communicated when we booked, so we weren't a walk in).The young lady came to us five minutes later and took our order, asking if we would like a smaller portion of lasagne for one of the children (they're 9 and 10).Half an hour later, my Dad's fish and chips arrived - and nothing else. She apologised and explained that 'they had to wait for the fryer'. That doesn't explain the further 15 minutes wait for the rest of the food - Roast beef, gammon, two lasagnes and one remaining fish and chips which, with the exception of the second fish and chips, presumably, are not cooked in the fryer. There were four other tables in, two of which were already well through their meals when we arrived and the other two had arrived 20 mins after us.Whilst waiting for the food to arrive, we went up to the bar to get more drinks, as nobody came to ask if we would like some, even when she dropped off the lonely fish and chips. At this point I noticed the pile of children's menus which would have been beneficial for the two children in our party had anyone bothered to take any note of us beyond taking our order, after being chased. The food when it did arrive was very nice, but the service here is absolutely abysmal. We sat with our pots and glasses from the first round piled around us, basically ignored by all staff - We were worried about not being served a dessert as 7pm came and went but I asked if we could have some menus (again I had to go to the bar). Hilariously when I went to get the menus, one of the ladies was cleaning the coffee machine!! I would suggest her time might better have been employed waiting tables and performing a basic level of service - Surely you can clean down the machine later on? Needless to say we didn't stay for tea or coffee. We ordered dessert, ate, paid - Including the 10% service charge that is automatically added. Having sat down to eat at 5.35pm we left at 7.40pm having had a main and a dessert which is incredibly slow. The irony of the song playing as we walked out "Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me" was not lost on us, as we left one of the staff moved past us to clean the table without so much as a goodbye.

Food was absolutely delicious! And the bar staff and waiter were very good. The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars was because a service charge was cheekily added to the bill which we were not aware of, which we wouldn’t have minded so much if we had actually been waited on at our table but we had to go to the bar and get our own drinks. To me a service charge should only be applied if you are being properly waited on.

Second and last time we will eat here unfortunately! We visited a few years ago and didn’t have the best experience food wise but decided to give it a second chance only to be disappointed again. The food is terrible, massively overpriced and they put a service charge on the bill!!One of the starters had salad that looked like it had been sat in the kitchen for weeks…wilted and dry. Not sure how anyone who takes pride in the food they serve thought that was acceptable to send out…Peas served with the pie were basically marrowfat peas mixed with mint sauce mashed up, tasted horrible and so dry.Such a shame as the front of house staff are nice, it’s in a lovely setting and with the right staff in the kitchen it could be a gold mine.

Vegan meals supposed to be special for the month of November, very poor staff knowledge of what food they were bringing out. Had to return to kitchen several times to ask if the meal they were bringing was actually a vegan meal, and brought a non-vegan Yorkshire pudding on a vegan meal. Before you start thinking, moaning vegans, I'm not one but my granddaughter and her parents are.
