Went here for lunch after touring the nearby Minster. Plenty of parking behind the Hotel but you need to give them your license plate number at the restaurant to avoid a ticket. Lots of history to read about. The building is old and was very cold in the dining room on the day we ate. Food was great and the server was very good. He even explained how to pronounce the name of the town!Food & drinks: Very good

We had the pleasure of staying at this charming hotel in Southwell, and it exceeded our expectations for a one-night getaway. From the moment we stepped into the lobby, the warm and welcoming atmosphere made us feel right at home. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable check-in process. We felt well-looked after from the first to the last minute. Thank you!

We spent part of new year's eve in here. The bar area we were allowed in was quiet but this suited us as we were with family members that live quite a way away, so we could talk. The rest of the hotel looked extremely busy with people staying overnight and the comedy club in another area. All our party enjoyed themselves and we all said we'd do it again.

Visited just for food and drinks. We ordered lunch and were served by a very helpful member of staff. We ordered Ale Fresco and sandwiches. The salmon sandwich was out of stock so chose another. Sandwiches were tasty, served with chips and salad. The building is very historic and interesting to visit.

It was a wet Thursday afternoon that we sort solace in what looked to be the perfect place to refuel after a long day seeing the sights of Southwell.Having read up on what to expect, we entered to find. The bar wasn't duly attended. So we waited a considerable time before a young man appeared. No apology for our wait. Just an uncomfortable stare. It was then that another couple of weary travellers came in whereby he appeared to make his way to them?It was at this point that I interjected and asked for service.I paid the chap a moderately expensive amount for our 2 drinks and sat there as 2 more ladies entered. He was still serving them 20 minute's later as I approached the bar for more.No nods or winks as he continued to wait for a reply from said ladies. It was almost he was fixed on their every word. I did wonder whether he could multi task. But no. I waited. The experience was somewhat let down by the uncomfortable waits. The room smelt musty and unloved.May try again as there is room for improvement.

We stayed 2 nights whilst singing at the Minster. Overall this is a very interesting place to stay, and extremely convenient for us. The lounge was very comfy and stylish. A lovely place to relax and have a drink with friends The outside area was beautiful and we would have used it had it not been raining! The car park was very convenient and the staff were very helpful. Our stay was good but could have been improved: - insufficient sockets for charging in the bedroom - no spare socket for the kettle - no storage or hanging space for clothes - coffees in room were not refilled - breakfast was adequate, but in a lovely room - dinner was ok but a bit pricey, and we expected better for the money

I didn’t stay at the hotel so the review is only for the pub. The food was great and the staff were friendly. The pub itself is incredibly old and lovely to look at.

I was very disappointed with the quality of this hotel, given the amount charged for the room. There was no proper wardrobe, just a rail in an alcove. Plus, the bathroom looked like it hadn't been updated since the 1970s. The towel rail was constantly on and the shower curtain and general shower arrangement looked very dated.WiFi was non-existent in my room and cut out even in the breakfast room. I think that these days, such poor wifi is not acceptable.I had the full English breakfast but it was plonked on my table to get cold while I was still eating a bowl of cereal. I have full English breakfasts in many b&bs that were superior in terms of quality and sourced food.It was also strange to walk into a hotel mid afternoon and be told that the reception staff would be leaving now that I had arrived which made the place feel very Marie Celeste. It also meant raising concerns with the staff would be stressful, problematic and not straightforward. When I left the next morning I was just glad to leave. On the plus side, the bed was comfy (although my sheet had a hole in it), the shower was powerful and the hotel had historic interest, but I tend to think that a hotel should not rely on its age to try to avoid its downsides.I couldn't help thinking that guests from abroad would not be impressed and might wonder if this is a 3 star AA hotel, what on earth must a 1 star be like? The courtyard would be a pleasant place for a drink if it were not for the safety fencing down the middle separating one side of the hotel from the other and the delapidated walls and windows on the other side of the hotel building.Southwell is an interesting place for its Minster and old palace but I'm afraid the eating options were very poor, limited to pub food that belongs to a bygone era. The hotel restaurant was closed (hotel restaurant closed??!!) so I couldn't check that out.

We stayed for one night in one of the few hotels in Southwell as we were visiting friends and we were told that The Saracens Head was the only decent hotel in Southwell. It was however, extremely overpriced for a dated and tatty hotel, which is in much need of some TLC. Our room faced onto the main road and we expected some noise but the windows were so bad we may as well have slept outside. Room was dated, tatty and not cared for. Bathroom had hand soap and a tiny bit of shampoo only. Shower was like standing under a broken gutter. Staff were friendly enough and the location was excellent.

In Southwell for a wedding, one nights stay £140, given room 15, I'm going to appreciate the historical history & age of this place & not totally rip it apart, floor boards squeaked, furniture tired, cardboard cups in room, noise from what was ever outside our window, breakfast & parking was okay, but it made me realise I why now quite enjoy staying in the newer type Premier/Holiday Inns
