Sweets of Southwell
34 King St, SouthwellI visited here again today. A real old fashioned sweet shop packed to the rafters! I always try and pop in when I'm in Southwell. The staff are always so friendly and chatty...and even humour me when I ask for 'a quarter' of aniseed balls. I can also recommend the ginger mints!

Birds
6 Queen St, SouthwellLast weekend I went to Southwell in Nottingham, an area of the country I've never ventured to before. I was visiting my new grandma-in-law with the better half's fam and even though it was a Saturday, I still had my Yelp head on and thoroughly relished the opportunity to explore the little village-town a tad. Off we wandered, brisk winds rendering us shivery and buried in our scarves. After spending an obscene amount of time in Nellie in the Shed (review coming soon - it's such an ace timewaster!), I emerged to find my beloved clutching a fresh bakery box and holding something aloft to my mouth. 'Fresh cheese roll?' he offered, feeding it to me. I had to stop still. Foodgasm passed, savouring the gooey melted centre and cheese-infused pastry still warm from the oven, I said, '*Where* did that come from?' He jerked his thumb in the direction of Birds Bakery over the road. There was more to come. When he opened the box, there was a selection of miniature tarts so cute I cooed at them. He'd grabbed a variety - a little bakewell, a couple of blackcurrant jam tarts and a large number of their famed lemon curd tarts which his mum and sis had been telling us about. Feeling a bit peckish before lunch we shared one of the little lemon curd delights and again I stopped, it's a flipping good job I wasn't in the middle of the road for crying out loud. I've never tasted pastry so buttery, lemon curd so eggy (this word sounds horrid but trust me, it's a good thing), and as for the flavouring, it was just the right level of sweet and sharp. I had to poke my nose in the clean white shop itself and was so impressed at everything I saw. Pastries and cakes, sweet and savoury... egg custard tarts that were huge and positively blasted with nutmeg, meat and vegetable pies, so many kinds of breads... Every one of our takeaway bites was exceptional, so what did I do when we got home? I went on their website of course. Thinking it was a local bespoke boutique bakery, imagine my surprise when I found that there are tons of them all over the Midlands! The attention to detail was such that I thought it must be independent - turns out it's just one of those absolutely great chains. And not the biggest one at that. I almost don't want to tell them to expand as that might take the unique edge off, but sod it. Please, Birds. Please please please come to the North West. I'd walk several miles for one of those lemon curd tarts, don't leave me hanging, The best part yet? The guessing game Chris and I played re: the tarts' price. They are priced individually and he asked me how much I thought they were. '80p?' I tried. '40p,' he corrected me. Clearly I've been living in a city too long, as have our friends as they guessed 85p and £1.20 respectively the next day when we gave them a couple of our tarts. I heart Birds. I miss it already.

Scoozi Pizzeria
15 Market Pl, SouthwellThis was a beautiful rustic eat in experience, smart casual attire is ideal. The staff and the authentic based pissa were absolutely fabulous. We went for our anniversary and the food was amazing. The bar staff who served us first was so polite (sorry I did not get your name) and the waitress who served us at our table was called Sophia, and she clearly explained everything to us, and as equally as polite. One constructive feedback, there was no garlic bread available when we visited on a Saturday night and the cheesecake and tiramusi was sold out. However, we asked for cheesy garlic dough balls that weren't on the menu and these were served for us as an alternative, and the remaining desserts on offer were fabulous. We will be definitely visiting again, the food was delicious, the best pizza I've ever tasted, the base was incredible! Thank you so much for making our anniversary celebrations so special. Hearty Goodfellow
81 Church St, SouthwellWe stopped here for lunch on our way to York. We were warmly greeted when we walked in which is always nice ? We were directed to table options. Nice fire bursted to the welcome. An extensive menu so we were spoilt for choice. We opted for Brie and bacon baguette and fish finger baguette with the most delicious chips I have had ? Good sized portions and the food was delivered to us quickly and really good quality. We would definitely recommend The Goodfellow ??

Shahi Kebabs
15 King St, SouthwellI would genuinely say this is the best place I have been to in Southwell for kebab. The kebab was of great quality and the service was exceptional. The price is pretty decent to what they are charging in inner city of Nottingham. Considering we are in a recession the price is genuinely good. I would highly recommend this place and will be going back again.

The Saracens Head Hotel & Restaurant
Market Pl, SouthwellWent here for lunch after touring the nearby Minster. Plenty of parking behind the Hotel but you need to give them your license plate number at the restaurant to avoid a ticket. Lots of history to read about. The building is old and was very cold in the dining room on the day we ate. Food was great and the server was very good. He even explained how to pronounce the name of the town!Food & drinks: Very good

Admiral Rodney Southwell
9 King St, SouthwellMy sister lives in Sheffield, us in Stamford so this was an ideal half way meeting point. Upon arrival the pub was warm and friendly and had the open fire cracking. The lady that greeted us was amazing! And was there throughout our whole visited and was incredible accommodating. We had an age range of 1-71 and there was 9 of us in the group. The food was normal pub grub which we all enjoyed. It was more the service that shone. We were able to move into the garden room to have coffees and open christmas presents. It’s was amazing. Thank you so much. Well definitely be back as out half way meeting point! ?
