Food & drinks: Great range of beers from Hook Norton Brewery! Thursdays is currently 'burger night' - my wife had a delicious mushroom 'burger', while I had a classic burger. All burgers are £12, then you add your choice of sides, e.g. skin on fries are £3.50, coleslaw £1.

What an absolute Gem of a place. We nipped in for lunch on the Saturday and had the most amazing BLT sandwiches! Which then prompted us to book Sunday lunch.... and we were not disappointed! Huge portions, beautiful veggies, very tasty!Stayed for a good 3 hours on each occasion! Nice cosy atmosphere. The landlord was very welcoming. We will definitely be back to Benson, even if its just to go eat and chill out at The Crown Inn!

Great atmosphere and very welcoming

Friendly welcoming staff. My Room was well decorated but cramped with nowhere to put my suitcase. Excellent shower! The vegetarian breakfast was well cooked apart from the spinage which was incredibly salty and an excessive quantity of boiled potatoes with a hash brown. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Disappointing, just go for drinks only then It'll be fine. Service for food not great and kitchen communication dire. Food average - not a posh nosh location. Go to the one down the road or go to the chippy afterwards.Noteworthy details: Don't go for food.

Had Sunday lunch today at the Crown in Benson, really disappointed to be honest. The roast dinners were inadequate, we had 1.5 potatoes each, the beef was so stringy and undercooked and it looked revolting. The vegetables were good so we at least had something for our money. Then, our puddings arrived, my Eaton mess could have been served in an egg cup it was that small. We got our puddings for free but I’m sorry to say it didn’t really make up for it. I felt sorry for the young lady serving as she tried her best to apologise, but spending £75 on 3 dinners you would expect so much more. It was a waste of a Sunday dinner and I felt aggrieved my wife paid for any of it. Never again!

The Crown Inn is situated in the heart of a very pretty area called Benson. It’s easy to get around without a car as the bus routes to Wallingford, Reading and Oxford are easily accessible within walking distance on flat pavements. A local shop and pharmacy is in the same road and a few metres up the road. The Inn itself was built in the 1800s and is very established in the area attracting its fair share of local patrons of its well stocked and spacious pub. The inn has a sense of history with slightly crooked walls and uneven floors - the cause of some amusement for me. The property is owned by the Hook Norton Brewery and on arrival in your room, you receive a complimentary bottle of beer on the first night along with the regular daily refreshes of water, bodum coffee, tea and biscuits. The rooms are comfortable, clean and somewhat quirky - each is decorated differently and comes equipped with TV, fan, hairdryer and small bathroom. Toiletries provided are liquid soap, shampoo and body lotion. One thing though, there is no bar fridge in the room - just ask the staff for milk if you need it for your room for the tea/coffee station. Breakfast is available as a Continental and/or Hot breakfast with a variety of choices including vegetarian. Very tasty with great personal service. Check what your room rate includes. The small but well executed menu for lunch and dinner is a popular choice for guests and patrons alike. The manager, Gus (he’s a Kiwi - but don’t hold it against him ?!) is personable and social and the perfect host. He and his team go the great lengths to make your stay a pleasant and memorable one. We had some great chats about the World Cup rugby ? Give them a try next time you’re in the area and be surprised and delighted by the warmth and attention that you receive. If you’re looking for something authentic, good value for money and where you can return to again and again, this is your place!

A very average and overpriced Sunday lunch. Limited menu with only beef and pork available at below average quality. Third visit now and seemingly much more complacent since the refurbishment...when it was truly excellent.
