Pubs in Burford

“Wow. What a find. My partner and I came for dinner on Wednesday for his birthday meal and were elated at our experience. The owners and staff were incredibly warm and welcoming as was the snug area where we were seated. We felt comfortable as soon as we arrived. Personally we very much enjoy fine dining food without the pretentious atmosphere that sometimes accompanies it and The Carpenters Arms was perfect for us! The food was exquisite, Masterchef The professionals should definitely be considered if not already. Some of our most favourite things from the meal were the satay sauce from the chicken croquettes, confit duck leg and potato terrine on the duck breast dish, the crab tart, The home made bread with butter, the truffle fries, and carrot cake dessert. Highly recommend this place for special occasions and we will definitively come back to try other seasonal menus, lunch menu and afternoon tea! For sure. Thank you so much for a memorable meal.”

“I want to shout about this place….and also say nothing and keep it a secret before it’s discovered by many!! An absolute gem. Amazing owners who have an in depth knowledge and passion for what they do, where the food and produce, matters more than the fluffing. Phenomenal food, and I mean, fantastic, along with a genuine, personable service. Without doubt, we will travel a couple of villages and make this a local, a must visit!”

“My partner and I came for a meal and of course had to go for the pie! We had the local game and red wine pie and omg... It was stunning. Truly a beautiful pie and it really was the best pie we've ever eaten. Full of flavour! The chips and veg with it were lovely too.We also had baked Camembert with fresh bread and cranberry sauce for starters. Everything was faultless. It's worth going to Buford JUST for this pub! Great value for money.Food & drinks: You must have a pie!!”

“Delicious goats cheese and caramelised shallots sourdough bun with homemade coleslaw with a small bowl of chunky chips for £7. Perfect lunch after a country walk. Lovely pub, beautifully and tastefully done up,. Sat next to the fire at the bar and staff were very friendly. Looks like a great place to go in the summer as you can sit in the garden next to the river. Looks like dogs very welcome”

“Beautiful roast dinner with friends - I had the pork and LOVED all the trimmings... Big bowl of roast potatoes... Hearty bowl of cauliflower cheese... And lashings of gravy. Yum. My only criticism is that there wasn't much pork on the pork as it was so fatty, but otherwise, superb. Thanks guys - will see you soon!”

“Nice cosy old style pub downstairs with a nostalgic fire place - the real deal not electric ones... Nice friendly staff. We only had drinks so couldn't comment on food but saw many happy dinners ?Worth a snug with warm tea or firey whisk on any cold night!”
