Gastropubs in Henley On Thames

“This is a lovely, family-run pub with a terrific breakfast. We stayed in Cherry which was very comfy with separate access from the pub, tea-making things, piping hot water. We had a very nice chat with Dan over the Full English and smoked salmon with scrambled egg. Ditto with a one of couple of non-residents who came in for breakfast too. Stoke Row has a fascinating history with its ornate well and cherry orchard given by an Indian maharaja and the surrounding beech woods are fabulous, specially at this time of year. Many thanks, Dan and to your lively family. Hope the maths homework went down well!”

“Wow! We didn’t book in advance, thinking it would be a quiet cheeky Friday lunch as one of our ‘safe places’. How wrong were we? It was busy, which was good to see! We were greeted with a lovely warm welcome as usual, which starts the whole experience off on a brilliant start. The service was fantastic and the ability to be flexible from turning a starter into a main course with a tweak to accommodate lactose intolerance was outstanding, with a couple of different options to choose from (mussels with either a cider sauce or tomato with garlic). Never thought of mussels and tomato before but it was delicious … just from the taste I had as it was my husband’s dish! The starters of teriyaki beef riblets and open duck spring roll were delicious, as were the mussels to follow and the wrapped chicken. Never had celeriac mash before, it was so nice and wish there was more! That said we both couldn’t finish our mains so dessert was out of the question, gutted! All in all it was a lovely lunch, great food and service and not what we’d call expensive at all. We’ll definitely be back again and again as this is one of two places where the food and service is outstanding and can easily cater for allergies or intolerances.”

“Great food, great service. We sat in the garden and ordered asparagus risotto and the fish and chips. Delicious. However, the best thing was… their Pimms!!!! Might have been the nicest Pimms I’ve ever had”

“Rather fabulous experience and beautifully located so close to the town. Dropped in unexpectedly after a dog walk and a local exploratory trip on a whim. Charming service and welcome. Dogs allowed inside and out including water bowls. Wonderful ale, nice setting, young enthusiastic service with a smile. The food was beautifully cooked and the beef Sunday roast a delight. Chose to dine at the leather sofa area but plenty of free formal tables available. They have this place spot on. Well done, you deserve to be very successful.”
