Friendly staff, cosy space and delicious meals. Best moussaka I've had with a tasty greek salad. Ham, egg and chips were good too

Met up with family who live abroad for dinner and chat first. They were staying here and we were all impressed with the hospitality of Stamatis and family. We appreciated the food especially the authentic Greek dishes and I only wished my appetite was as great as when younger. Excellent!

Room was tiny & cramped & not fresh but seemed dusty. Had to mostly keep windows shut as drinkers would smoke just outside the room. Seemed like furnishings were still from 1960 but not maintained. Also our room door would not lock.Had breakfast there but very ordinary. Overall place grubby. Thus did not eat dinner there.Owners rather unsmiling and unwelcoming.Rooms: Dusty & cramped with unchanged furniture since 1960Nearby activities: Great nearby historic church

Arrived 13.55 to be coldly greeted with a door closing and being told “we’re closing”. When I pointed out that the notice on the door said they were open until 14.30, the woman asked “do you want food?” and added “because we stop serving food at 14.00 and as it’s almost that now we won’t do any”. Without waiting for a response she then shut the door on us. The warm Greek welcome we received last time we were here is long gone. Avoid!

What a fantastic find. Lovely warm welcome from Stamitas. Lots of reminiscing being as we love Greece, plus coincidentally, he had worked near my home and my partners over the years. Our room was compact and clean with everything you need. Fresh milk and orange juice in a fridge, very welcome. Pub was shut Sunday night, but it was not a problem. Faith and Stamitas offered us a meal, but we went into Banbury. Breakfast, bot full English, but plenty of cereals, yoghurt, fruit and toast. Lovely stay. The visitors book tells it all

Spent a wonderful night at this unique pub. The proprietor Stamatis is a lovely man. His hospitality is second to none. The room was a bit small but comfortable with a good en-suite shower. Our Greek Platter for dinner was lovely as was the healthy breakfast. Great value & an amazing experience!

Just stopped off here by chance on the way back from nearby lovely Broughton Castle. It's a lovely, friendly pub with the most delicious and authentic Greek food we've had for years. The owner is lovely too! The garden area overlooking the fields out the back has some beautiful views. The only slight negative was that we were overcharged (as we found out later), but to be honest the service was so good we didn't mind leaving it as a tip instead. I also wish they had more local cask ales on tap. Tribute is fine, but it's from Cornwall! As we were leaving, we spotted a cute little hedgehog wandering around. Swalcliffe the village itself is very pretty overall. We would highly recommend this as a great pub to have an evening meal. Even better is that it's easy to get to from the M40 near Banbury.

Pulled in for a water and oil check, and saw the pub sign, nice little country pub friendly landlord, we paid another visit on our return journey, pub was quiet and was not doing food, however they agreed to put on some bowels of chips as we where hungry on our steam day journey.

Well where do I start, went into the establishment to be greeted with a question are you local? No smile no hello or can i help you?. Asked what beers they had but was glared back with no response. Then I asked can I have a look at the menu but was told instantly the kitchen has closed. I explained we had just eaten but maybe for another time as we quite often drive past. Bearing in mind it was only around 8:19pm. Then he said there's a garden out the back. It was said in a manner that came across as if we were not welcome in the bar area. Then as we was leaving I took the menu and empty glasses back into the bar area out of courtesy, there was food still being served which was disappointing to say the least. As a fellow Greek myself I was joyed to hear the Greek music and have always associated this with warm and welcoming experiences. Unfortunately not on this occasion.

All delicious home made food. Service pleasant. Good value. We had mixture of Greek and English dishes. Will definitely return.

An intimate traditional village pub frequented by the friendly locals. You'll be made to feel right at home by the locals and staff, get the chance to sample some traditional Greek food, and tasty local ales. Beautiful views over farmland from the beer garden. Recommended
