I don’t think I can rate The Globe in high enough! I recommend with hesitation, but make sure you book as I saw people turned away. We had a pre-dinner drink before sitting down for what turned out to be a fabulous night. We were attended to by Chitra…..and the service was attentive and outstanding throughout. We had the beef and pork mains (with chips and green beans), followed by Japanese Cheese cake and sticky date. All of the food was wonderful - melt in you mouth comes to mind. A bottle Spanish Rose with the meals and a few drams of whiskey to finish. It was a wonderful experience both from a food and service perspective. If you are in Dumfries, do yourself a favour, book ahead and enjoy the experience. Thank you to The Globe’s 1610 team.

I attended the venue with work colleagues for a tour and lunchtime meal. The Globe Inn is steeped in history and was frequented by Robert Burns. It’s a great tour very informative with lots to see. Then there’s the food. You won’t be disappointed. I chose the Ham Hock as a starter. I was intrigued by the Piccalilli and Pineapple Ice cream. On my start of all things but, oh my it was so good and works really well. For my main I had the belly pork. Again the tastes and quality of the food, what with all the presentation was fantastic. I finished my meal with the Cheese board selection. Well recommended and about 13 different cheeses. All the staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Well worth the money and the experience. I will be back for more.

My wife and I visited The Globe for the first time for a birthday celebration. We had the tasting menu which was in our opinion good value and contained an interesting range of dishes. We were not disappointed! Each dish was beautifully presented with subtle balances of flavours. The fish dishes were sublime and the ice creams and sorbet delicious. The front of house staff were enthusiastic and charming but lacked in depth knowledge about the food. However we were aware that for some of them it was their first service in the restaurant. We will certainly be returning to this restaurant. Thank you for a memorable evening.

The food on its own was very good, great to have this level of dining come to Dumfries. I'm deeply sorry to say that our experience was let down. I had booked a table several weeks before, for 4, inviting 2 of our best friends who we have dined in some of the best restaurants around Scotland over the years. I was phoned 4 days before our booking to check our dietary needs as I had noted my husband has a 'dairy intolerance'. Intolerance is not an allergy and my husband can tolerate low levels of dairy and make an informed choice from most menus. I was advised that they couldn't accommodate his needs and it was suggested we may be better booking somewhere else ! I have never in my life had this suggested so was quite taken aback. Where were we going to find a table for 4 of a similar level, locally at short notice? If they ask for dietary requirements and can't accommodate them, then why wait till 4 days before your booking ? Whenever we eat out, we have made the chef aware and have been accommodated with full respect, with maitre de reassuring and help minimise dairy content. We had checked the menu and he was happy there were options with minimal butter/cream and chooses not to have amuse bouche etc. Anyway, I had a full conversation on the phone call, reassuring them that the steak and chips would be good for my husband, so was seriously upset that we had to go through the same conversation on seating at the table ! Our evening could've /should've been a better experience. Feels like they are taking a zero risk approach and I'm sorry to say very disappointing, as we had looked forward to this level of dining coming to Dumfries. Needless to say this has become one of my poor experience stories which I'll relay to many friends and family with the side note that the food is very good

Don’t know why this isn’t number one in Dumfries, it is the best meal I have ever had! You are made welcome from the minute you enter, the staff were friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable about the food. I cannot wait to visit again, I would highly recommend it.

This was the second lunch visit to The Globe Inn. This time we brought a friend. We chose the tasting menu which proved to be a visual and gastronomical delight. Our tastebuds were treated to some fine matchings of flavours. The ham hock, the scallop and the dessert were utterly delicious.

What an experience we had with the degustation menu, absolute work of art in every course. Not only in presentation but in the flavours and quality of ingredients, you know that that the head chef and his very talented team have put their absolute heart and soul into the creation of each course. Flavours, textures, colours, everything has been finely tuned to pair perfectly and excite your taste buds. Trying foods I would normally say no to because I know its cooked to perfection and of the finest quality. Fantastic skills from the Globe Inn and a wonderful experience being able to enjoy food in this way. All the staff are professional and friendly, creating a wonderful evening for us.

First time here since the Globe was refurnished, after hearing from some of our friends that the food and service were great and yes they were right. My wife is celiac and therefore can't eat anything with gluten in it. I informed them when booking and they had a separate menu for her which still had plenty of choices. I didn't have a starter but had the Fillet of Beef, with a beautiful and rich reduction to pour over the dish. I had the Milk Caramel Tart, one of the best desserts I have ever had. My wife had the Ham hock terrine for a starter, a lamb main dish and the cheese board for dessert. She was full of praise for all the dishes she had. We also had bread and 2 pre-dinner hors d'oeuvres each and 2 apres dinner hors d'oeuvres. We had a couple of drinks and I had a bottle of wine which I thought was reasonably priced. The price wasn't the cheapest but for the food and service, it was well worth it. Can't fault the service of the waiters who were efficient and explained what was in each dish when serving, even tried a couple of things I had never had before

This is a beautiful pub/restaurant with an amazing history. The food is modern, using fresh local ingredients. It all tasted fantastic and the service was first class. Highly recommended if you want a special experience.

Excellent service. A wonderful place so emotive of Robbie Burns. Especially seeing rooms where Robbie was. A must see place in Dumfries

A lovely old place, slightly tucked away, steeped in history. Dumfries is not a glamorous town but this place is better than most others nearby. Good whisky selection.
