My wife and I with our niece went to Umberto's as we were told you get a good meal, we ordered one gluten free carbonara ,one gluten free spaghetti bolognese, one ordinary spaghetti carbonara and when it came they were all cold so the girl took them back returned and were still cold when we eventually received our meals we started to eat and it was disgusting the gluten free carbonara was not fit for human consumption and the bolognese meat my niece had looked and tasted off we then told the girl and she apologised to us the next thing this chap appeared which I take it was the Manager he was very rude picked up all our meals and more or less told us to go .We have never been so humiliated so we will never ever be back.

Popped in today for a light lunch. We had the breaded mushrooms and garlic sauce along with a portion of Bruschetta. Although the restaurant was busy, the service was great. The staff were very friendly as was the chef (owner?) Robbie who came to check we were satisfied with the food, which we were. The bruschetta especially is a dish I would recommend. All in all a 5 star experience and we will definitely return the next time we visit Dunbar.

Popped in for lunch with husband and kids. We were aware the business had changed ownership and the menu was limited to Cafe style rolls/ coffee/ sweet treats with chips, garlic breads and 6 or 7 pasta dishes. We honestly felt that the business is being run into the ground! The waitresses were friendly although a little unprofessional. They had run out of glasses and were therefore putting children’s plastic cups on tables with cans of juice and advising customers they’d run out of glasses! Milkshakes were advertised on special boards…. None available though. We heard another customer being told rolls no longer available and some of the drinks were also out of stock. When our meal arrived, the garlic bread was cold, however pasta dishes and chips were lovely. This was once a thriving business, built on a brilliant reputation. It’s a shame an established restaurant is now being run so poorly… especially as we thought this business was linked to another restaurant on the high street (Hectors Pizzeria) which has never disappointed. Personally, we weren’t expecting pizza but I couldn’t believe how many times we heard other customers being told they didn’t offer pizza whilst the pizza oven lies redundant. Sadly, we won’t be returning and unfortunately I cannot see This restaurant surviving once the repeat customers of the previous owners also stop visiting.

Visited with family. A disappointing experience, menu extremely limited with no pizza on offer. After half an hour the waitress advised that there had been a mix up with orders - only four other people were in, so that seemed strange - and ours was only just being prepared. 45 minute wait for food not acceptable . Table not laid, I had to find cutlery and napkins from other tables. Staff seemed to be spending a lot of time chatting to friends instead of serving customers. Won't go again although we used to love this restaurant .

When visiting Dunbar, we looked forward to dining at Umbertos. It’s changed hands and they hardly have any choice on the menu anymore. The Lasagne was inedible which, if you only have a few items on the menu is unbelievable. Once a thriving restaurant with great food is now very poor indeed.

One of the worst lunches I have ever had. The carbona was swimming in oil and lasagna was nothing like any lasagna I have had before. Both were inedible and when I brought it to the attention of the waitress she laughed. Don’t ever go there for any reason. We were fortunate to go the before it echanged hands when the food was delicious. New staff and chef required. We will never return and advise friends of the same.

Not the same quality now umberto has retired and hectors in dunbar bought it. It's an insult to use his name and TripAdvisor score. Should be under a different name now its different staff and a fraction of the menu umberto offered. No wonder it's empty every night

We have just returned home after our first visit since changing ownership. I was so disappointed, firstly so cold, sat with coat on most of meal. Then main meal wasn’t appearing, staff over a few times giving us cookies even though hadn’t had our main meal. Eventually asking where our dinner was, to be told new staff sorry, but other tables being served. Brought over a bottle of beer for hubby to say sorry. Then while eating to listen to staff coming from kitchen, and speaking to management not quietly swearing(f’n D**k) when telling story and management smiling/laughing. Where is the professionalism? Not somewhere I would now feel comfortable taking children. Only reason 2 stars as when we got food it was tasty but rest of experience was poor

My next visit here. Again I can recommend this place. Everything delicious and worth to try. Friendly and professional staff.

Not Umbertos now, just a really bad coffee bar? Totally clueless in how to run it, we sat next to a young family, our order had been taken and so had theirs 30 minutes earlier but not even their or our coffees had arrived so she went to ask and both they and us left, we went to Cafe Central across and round the corner, now they know how to run a business, brilliant staff, and great coffee ☕ too

Restaurant was very quiet, only four other customers there, we ordered two coffees and two scones twenty five minutes later we were still waiting. No one came to explain or apologise, we eventually left. Four other customers were still waiting for their food when we left.

We stopped in for a coffee and a cake before lunchtime and this place seems ok. Quite slow service (10 mins to take order) given it was very quiet and we said we just wanted a couple of coffees but no problem really. They came eventually and were tasty.

Recently changed hands from a pizza place. Now a dedicated pasta restaurant with a new breakfast and cake/coffee set up. Extremely good value for basic but generous, tasty pasta dishes.Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendlyParking: Lots of free local street parking
